Job Description
The Public Affairs Department's Volunteer & Events Manager is responsible for managing PPMW's volunteer programs and events as related to the Public Affairs Department. In conjunction with serving as Volunteer & Events Manager for Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW), a 501(c)(3) organization, the individual will also serve as Volunteer & Events Manager for PPMW's affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization, Planned Parenthood Advocates for DC, Maryland, and NOVA (PPADMV). In alignment with organizing staff and other department colleagues, the Volunteer & Events Manager manages PPMW and PPADMV's dynamic volunteer opportunities. The Volunteer & Events Manager also manages PPMW's Public Affairs Department's participation in agency-wide virtual and in-person events, and virtual and in-person events for PPADMV. At no time will the Volunteer & Events Manager engage in partisan political activity on behalf of PPMW, though at times the role will involve this type of activity on behalf of PPADMV.
Volunteer Programming (70%)
- Identify, develop, and implement creative volunteer recruitment strategies to attract and retain an activated pool of volunteers to support and execute organizing activities and efforts
- In alignment with organizing staff, serve as the point-of-contact and coordinator for new volunteers; assess how to match volunteer interests with appropriate PPMW department needs, develop and facilitate volunteer trainings, manage the volunteer network
- Create, maintain, and develop content for monthly volunteer newsletter
- Maintain and identify new volunteer opportunities across all departments and initiatives within PPMW and PPADMV, including but not limited to: organizing actions, patient advocacy programs, storyteller opportunities
- Manage PPMW's Developing Leadership Program (DLP): a formal competitive program of young professionals devoted to Planned Parenthood's mission; manage DLP's alumni network
- Manage PPMW's Ambassador Program: a network of volunteers mobilized to promote and fight for access to reproductive healthcare across DC, MD and NOVA -- including revisiting and rebuilding the program post-pandemic.
- Coordinate volunteer on-boarding and training with Human Resource
- Identify, participate in, and uplift community events
Events (25%) Events (25%)
- Manage PPADMV's virtual and in-person events, such as educational webinar programming and in-person supporter cultivations, including but not limited to:
- Coordinating with program staff to head up planning events from start to finish;
- Creating and managing event project plans in alignment with other departments,
- Managing speaker relationships and logistics, sponsorships, and ticketing;
- Creating and managing event budgets;
- Managing event venues and on-site logistics; in a virtual environment, managing the platform;
- Managing event marketing plans,
- Managing the attendee experience, including post-event. Manage the PPMW Public Affairs Department's participation in agency-wide virtual and in-person internal and external events and events-like programming, including but not limited to donor events, such as:

- External: annual gala; Cocktails for a Cause; Liberty Circle and Legacy Circle events; donor house parties;
- Internal: staff onboarding; staff trainings & meetings.
Additional Responsibilities (5%)
Requirements:- Commitment to PPMW's mission and values; deep understanding of and dedication to advancing equity, as well as the ability to bring a strong antiracist and intersectional feminist lens to all aspects of your work.
- Bachelor's Degree or 5-7 years of experience.
- Minimum 2-4 years experience in volunteer management, events management, or similar required; experience in non-profit and/or progressive advocacy strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure accurateness and completeness of all elements of project requirements, and an ability to adapt and thrive through change on a regular basis.
- Strong commitment to meeting deadlines, attention to detail, showing progress towards goals, and follow-through.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to engage in significant interpersonal interaction with tenacity and tact across multiple audiences; strong commitment to internal and external customer service required.
- Comfortable taking direction in a fast-paced environment.
