Job Description

CNC MACHINE SETTER AND PROGRAMMER Leader in the field of precision mechanical manufacturing seeks a CNC Machine Setter and Programmer at their premises near Cape Town For the position you would be required to have: Trade certification as a Machine Setter Artisan (A Grade) in accordance with the MEIBC Main Agreement. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documents. Proficiency with all measuring equipment. Familiarity with a variety of machining processes, including milling, turning, TURN-MILL. Strong knowledge of Fanuc and Siemens machine controls. Experience with CAM software (Exp. Fusion 360 or FeatureCAM or similar). Swiss Type Machine experience advantageous Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment problems effectively. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work while meeting production targets. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to changing production demands. Main Responsibilities (but not limited to these only) Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to set up machines accurately. Configure machines according to product requirements, including adjustments to speed, feed, and tooling. Monitor machine operations to ensure smooth functioning and make adjustments as necessary to optimize performance. Conduct trial runs to verify settings and make adjustments to achieve desired output quality. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts, to ensure machinery operates smoothly. Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, diagnosing issues with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems. Coordinate with maintenance technicians or external service providers for repairs and technical support as needed. Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, parts replaced, and downtime incurred. Inspect finished products for defects or deviations from specifications, making adjustments to machine settings as needed to maintain quality standards. Conduct regular quality checks throughout the production process, monitoring variables such as dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes. Work closely with quality control personnel to address any quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions as required. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following lockout/tagout procedures. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to minimize hazards associated with machine operations. Participate in safety training programs and promote a culture of safety awareness among team members. Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production output, and maintenance activities using electronic or paper-based systems. Generate production reports detailing key performance indicators (KPIs) such as uptime, scrap rates, and throughput. Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues, providing updates on production status, issues encountered, and recommendations for improvement.
