Job Description

Job Purpose: To conduct electrical maintenance and repairs on plant and maintain equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager. Minimum Requirements: Grade 12 with mathematics and science Electrician Trade Test (Section 13 red seal) 6 years’ experience in heavy industry Preferable in a Non-Woven Textile plant (Highly Advantageous) N4 electrical trade theory, with subjects specific to Electrical Engineering (Highly Advantageous) Wireman License (Highly Advantageous) Responsibilities: Maintenance Process (Scheduled): Receive Maintenance Schedules, interpret instructions and plan maintenance and repair work Inspect the tooling and determine spares and consumables requirements Generate Job Requisitions for scheduled maintenance work (type of repair or maintenance, spares, quantities, time, etc.) Transport tools, equipment, and spares to the work site Isolate equipment, perform lockouts and make the work area safe Conduct Preventive Maintenance activities Count stock for a Stock Take integrity check (check spares condition during the count) Maintenance Process (Breakdown): Attend to machine breakdowns of an electrical or minor mechanical nature for all equipment under engineering functional control Update the responsible person on progress of repairs Escalate the problem to the next level if it cannot be resolved successfully Capture all information related to the breakdown to aid in determining the root cause File job requisition upon completion of repair Electrical Maintenance: Design and construct Single/Three Phase Circuits Design and Install Electrical Wire Ways Construct, commission, and do fault tracing on low voltage reticulation networks (220Vac, 110Vac, 24DC) Install or replace and commission electrical equipment (lighting systems; electrical cables and conductors; earth leakage unit in a low voltage circuit; metering units or measuring instruments; low and medium voltage transformers; batteries; electrical wire ways; direct current (DC) machines three phase AC electrical circuits, machines, and control gear) Wire and commission three phase electrical circuits Connect and commission a three-phase direct online motor control system Install and commission Single Phase AC Machines and Control Gear Inspect and clean (electrical machines; enhanced safety apparatus; electrical motors) Test and inspect a three-phase industrial/commercial installation Carry out a detailed inspection on a DC motor Inspect and maintain and test high mast lighting structures Inspect and clean medium / high voltage yards and enclosures (MCC) Inspect and maintain electrical equipment (electrical distribution boards, panels and enclosures; intrinsically safe apparatus; lighting systems; high mast lighting structures; batteries and battery rooms (UPS, Generator); low voltage switchgear; unit protection devices on transformers; AC or DC drive units; (DC) machines; electric power tools; three phase AC machines and control gear; AC motor control gear) Replace electrical equipment (electrical cables; faulty components in a distribution board; three-phase electrical motor between 5,5 kW and 75 kW) Fault find and repair (Domestic appliances; single phase alternating current (AC) systems; three phase voltage electrical circuits) Disconnect and connect electric motors Handle and care for electrical earthing gear and related equipment Identify, handle and assemble medium / high voltage line hardware and related materials Joint low voltage cables Troubleshoot on programmable logic controllers, HMI’s and variable speed drives Update electrical drawings as required Mechanical and Fabrication: Mechanically cut, drill and punch fabrication materials, sharpen drill bits, basic mechanical fault finding with regards to Pneumatics and Hydraulics and basic repairs and installation to such related components Instrumentation Maintenance: Construct Basic Electronic Circuits Install Instrument impulse lines Maintain instrumentation equipment (Flow; Level; Pressure; Temperature; Intrinsically safe apparatus) Carry out soldering and de-soldering procedures Maintenance Process (Post Maintenance): Test and commission machinery or equipment prior to handover Complete the Planned Maintenance Schedule (Work completed, work not completed, spares used, spares not available, time taken, observations, problems, etc.) Identify any other work required (including additional spares) Clean up after completion of job and inform the responsible person that the maintenance has been completed to the required standard Material Handling: Sling loads Operating cranes/hoists Operating forklifts Engineering Projects Project Initiation: Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control and work as a valuable team member Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for a project or sub project and monitor and control actual cost against budget Project Planning: Schedule project activities to facilitate effective project execution Monitor, evaluate and communicate project schedules Project Management: Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise Supervise a project team of a technical project if and when requested Provide assistance within the project in the field of your expertise Project Administration: Support project meetings and workshops when required to do so Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement drives Reporting: Complete Maintenance Time Sheets (nature of work, time spent to repair, and material/spares used).
