Interim Chief Financial Officer Reports to: CEO Duration: 3-6 months Location: Hamilton, ON 3 or 4 days a week 1-day on-site, the rest virtual Our client, a reputable academic hospital, is seeking a seasoned finance professional to help steer the organization through a period of transition. The Interim CFO will guide financial and strategic sourcing strategies and provide oversight for organizational financial accountabilities, under the direction of the CEO. A close partnership with the Executive Leadership Team, the Board of Directors, Finance Department, Strategic Sourcing Department, and provincial partners will be critical to this role, particularly as our client navigates the changing health care landscape and manages significant fiscal and operational pressures. The successful interim CFO will work closely with the CEO to support strategic financial reporting and oversight to key internal and external partners, provide senior leadership oversight of the finance and strategic sourcing teams, and inform short, mid and long-term strategic priorities related to financial decision making, redirection of fiscal resources, and responding to provincial financial directions. The assigned strategic interim will hold an active Chartered Professional Accounting designation and possess a significant understanding of hospital fiscal accountabilities and the provincial health care system. Key Accountabilities: Participate as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and actively contribute to strategic and operational planning processes and decision making. Engage with the Board of Directors on fiscal matters, as directed through the CEO. Coach, lead and inspire a large, diverse and talented team. Oversee and deliver a complement of services and functions, including Finance and Strategic Sourcing. Lead annual and multi-year operating and capital budgeting processes while providing practical strategic advice supporting in achieving its financial goals and objectives. Lead detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and monitor and forecast financial position to enable effective decision making. Contribute financial expertise and analysis in support of innovative approaches to health system and health funding reform, models of care, strategic sourcing, and facilities. Focus on quality improvement through ongoing monitoring and implementation of initiatives and remedies to provide high quality financial services. Monitor compliance and produce all required attestations and similar compliance declarations. Lead planning and execution of work related to internal and external audits. Direct and monitor policies and procedures related to financial management. Continue to advance a financial strategy that effectively positions the team as strategic partners across organization and the sector. Identify opportunities to position the organization for future success in Ontario’s evolving landscape of health care funding and service delivery models. Provide strategic and operational leadership regarding financial opportunities and challenges, projected growth and government funding changes, investment and business planning, and risk management initiatives. Coach and lead finance and strategic sourcing leaders based on standards of performance and leadership goals. Determine and align financial improvement projects with the organization’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes. Collaborate with internal and external partners to achieve operational and strategic objectives, integrate and link services and foster partnerships across the continuum of service delivery. Competencies and Requirements: Significant experience in leading a comparable portfolio in a large, complex health care organization. In good standing with CPA Canada. A post graduate degree from a recognized, accredited academic institution is preferred. Extensive knowledge of accounting and business principles, able to articulate a wide range of system-wide finance matters to senior leaders, Board members, and the Ministry. A strategic thinker, with the ability to position the resources of the organization to yield optimal, measurable outcomes. Acknowledged senior leader in the sector. Highly collaborative and team oriented. Demonstrated success in leading large teams and in coaching and mentoring team members, including future leaders.
