Who We Are We are a specialized treatment program, located in Oakville, Ontario, dedicated to supporting individuals with complex and unique needs. Our goal is to assist individuals in reaching their maximum potential. Behavioural Support Worker This is a great position for post-secondary students and university and college graduates, from variety of programs and disciplines in health and social services. The position provides meaningful experience, working directly with clients, in a specialized clinical treatment setting. Behavioural Support Specialists provide specialized care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who present with complex behavioral needs. In addition to aiding residents with their daily activities, Behavioral Support Specialists assist in the implementation of behaviour support plans designed to modify residents’ behaviour. Behavioural Support Specialists also assist in the implementation of skills acquisition programs that are focused on the teaching of adaptive skills (i.e., personal care and hygiene, academics, social skills, etc.). These services, delivered continuously throughout the day, may take place in one of our programs or out in the community, and encompass activities related to all aspects of daily living. Qualifications: • Currently enrolled in or completed a College Diploma or a University Degree in any of the following disciplines: Autism & Behavioural Sciences, Developmental Services, Social Services, Police Foundations, Psychology, or Criminology. Note: Applicants from other academic disciplines may be considered based on education and experience. • Energetic and self-motivated; willing to learn and apply new knowledge • Available to work a rotating schedule (morning, afternoon, evenings, overnights, and holidays) • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team • Good communication skills – verbal and written • Current First-Aid and CPR-C certification • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 6 months Assets • Experience working with individuals with complex behaviours and in crisis intervention (CPI, UMAB, SMG) • Knowledge and understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Duties/Responsibilities: • Implements facility-wide behavioral programs, that includes individualized behavioral protocols and skill acquisition programs • Models appropriate behavior, provides positive reinforcement and corrective feedback daily. • Assists residents in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). This includes but is not limited to personal care and hygiene, medication administration, meal preparation, academic skills, vocational skills and training, and recreational activities. • Transporting residents to medical appointments, vocational, recreational, and educational activities in the community (i.e. Grocery shopping, Physical Activity, etc.). • Administers residents’ medication programs. • Interacts with residents’ family and visitors in the facility and on home visits. • Completes all daily needed documentation (i.e. behavioral data, skill acquisition data, shift summaries, house charts, checklists, medication administration records, and incident reports) including filing in client binders. • Ensure the safety of all residents and co-workers by ensuring a safe environment, following all safety protocols, and implementing the required and SMG approved physical and mechanical interventions. • Attends crisis intervention and other training, as required. • Works with individuals of all ages.
