Publishing Intern

Job Location

Middletown, CT, United States

Job Description

Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries is looking to hire a student intern. A monthly review service, Choice publishes more than 7,000 reviews annually, spanning all academic disciplines, in print and electronic format. Written by teaching faculty and academic librarians, some of whom reside on the Wesleyan campus, Choice reviews are generally the first professional, post publication comment on new scholarly works.

The intern will gain valuable publishing experience working with Choice’s editorial director, assisting with a wide range of editorial responsibilities including, but not limited to, optimizing the editorial review process, proofreading and helping to develop feature content, and assisting in a range of editorial administrative operations. In addition, the intern will work with Choice’s general manager in an administrative unit covering the mail room (and the 25,000 books that stream in on an annual basis), our 3,000-plus reviewers scattered across the country, and publishers, both domestic and international, that submit books for review consideration.

The Choice offices, located in Middletown, CT at 575 Main St. (above It’s Only Natural), are informal and collegial.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an undergraduate interested in a career in media, communications and/or academic publishing. The intern should possess excellent writing and organizational skills and be detail-oriented, responsive to schedules, and computer savvy (including familiarity with internet research and Excel). Interns must be willing to participate in the mundane--as well as the more interesting--aspects of publishing.

This is a three month, paid internship for 10 to 12 hours a week.
