Job Description
JOB PURPOSE This role exists because students deserve to shape their own experience. At the Union of Brunel Students, we are committed to positively impacting every student’s time at university. The Student Voice Coordinator plays a central role in achieving this by ensuring that students are heard, supported, and empowered to lead change—within their courses, across the University, and in the wider community. By leading our academic representation system and supporting student-led campaigns, this role ensures that our members have real influence in decisions that affect them. It champions student voice, nurtures future leaders, and strengthens the connection between students and the University —ultimately creating a more responsive, inclusive, and empowering student experience. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES Campaign Co-ordination 1. To lead and facilitate the Union’s campaigning portfolio. 2. Coordinate and develop the training, tools, and resources to support the officers with the planning and delivery of impactful campaigns. 3. Support officers to ensure their campaign objectives are effectively set delivered and align with the Union’s wider strategy. 4. Support other staff and departments in the Union to deliver on campaigns as instructed by your line manager 5. Work with the Union’s Communications and Events teams to develop a year-round strategy that promotes campaigns to students and external partners. 6. Support officers in capturing the student voice and turning it into effective, action-led campaigns. Academic Representation Coordination 1. Lead on the recruitment of Academic Course Representatives and Senior Academic Representatives. 2. Oversee and develop the academic representation systems, procedures and databases ensuring that all records are accurate. 3. Develop, deliver and review a comprehensive training programme for Academic Course Reps and Senior Academic Representatives. 4. Oversee the academic representation feedback and communication channels. 5. Coordinate the Academic Course Rep and Senior Rep reward and recognition programme. 6. Create annual reports reviewing the performance and impact of the Student Rep system and identify areas for further development. 7. Plan and coordinate key rep-related events including Student Led Awards, Rep, Congress Meetings, and rep celebration events. About The Role Member Engagement 1. Develop and deliver training sessions that equip elected representatives and student groups with the skills to effectively campaign for change. 2. Prepare comprehensive reports assessing the impact of campaigns and propose strategies for future improvements. 3. Facilitate both primary and secondary research tasks as assigned by the line manager. 4. Monitor progress of research and specific projects by arranging meetings and maintaining records and plans. 5. Facilitate inter-team collaboration in order to support officer priorities. As delegated by the line manager. 6. Undertake research and write reports on matters relating to the student experience. 7. Monitor and coordinate the ideas portal in conjunction with other team members. 8. Facilitate the representation of students, with a focus on students from marginalised groups. Student Voice Support 1. Establish and maintain administrative processes and filing systems liaising with other departments as necessary. 2. Be responsible for the maintenance and updating of the department’s online presence. 3. Support with the management of Student Networks 4. To provide support for the Union Elections and By-election processes. 5. Provide support to your line manager in relation to the overall work of the department. 6. Assume responsibility for servicing democratic processes as and when directed by the line manager. GENERAL DUTIES 1. Ensure a high and consistent standard of customer care within all areas of responsibility. 2. To assist in maintaining departmental stationary supplies, processing orders and invoices 3. Provide emergency cover for the Union Reception as required when possible. 4. To be aware of, and abide by, the confidentiality policy of the Union. 5. To actively contribute to the activities of the Union and support fellow members of the team as directed by the line management structure. 6. To be aware of the necessary Health and Safety policies, legislation and best practice, as practiced by the Union. 7. To work within the Union’s procedures and codes of practice. 8. To undertake such other duties as are agreed to being in keeping with the general nature of the job and its grade. 9. To abide by the Union’s Recycling Policy at all times. 10. To ensure all relevant departmental activity is in line with the specific requirements of and the spirit of the Union’s Environmental and Ethics Policies. 11. To actively contribute to the Union’s carbon reduction and energy efficiency initiatives and promote the same to colleagues. 12. As a member of Students’ Union staff, behave in such a way as to reflect the values and objectives of the Union, modelling these for all students as appropriate, and effectively representing the organisation at all times. 13. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the level and nature of the post and the goals of the Students’ Union and follow Union policy to support the achievement of its wider mission and goals. 14. A flexible approach to work will be required as although the role is primarily daytime based it may include occasional unsociable Person Specification ESSENTIAL Education & Knowledge Proven literacy and numeracy skills. An understanding of current issues within Higher Education. A demonstrable understanding of equality and diversity principles. Experience Experience co-ordinating campaigns, initiatives and/or projects in the charity or education sector. Experience of developing and preparing reports and presentations. Skills and abilities Ability to manage work time effectively and to prioritise appropriately, managing multiple project briefs. Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service while effectively managing stakeholder relationships. Adept at using Office Suite Products and able to learn new software packages quickly. Excellent written communication skills and ability to present complex data in a clear and concise manner. Demonstrable willingness to cover a wide range of activities. Ability to effectively engage liberation groups and implement a proactive approach to equity, inclusion and diversity. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Ability to work with and support a diverse range of members. Ability to build networks and maintain professional working relationships with people at all levels. Strong project management skills and implementation. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Available to work evenings and weekends when required. DESIRABLE Knowledge or understanding of Student Union environment and structure. Experience of developing and delivering support and training. Experience within youth and/or student advocacy. Experience engaging with underrepresented groups and members from marginalised communities. Experience of supporting, empowering and developing volunteers.
