Job Description
Overview Director - Syndications, Loan Capital Markets (LCMA) role at SMBC Group. This position will cover both origination and distribution of syndication deals and transactions within LCMA Australia, working in conjunction with the Head of LCMA Australia and Project Finance Syndications, Asia Pacific. Based in the Sydney branch, the role involves sourcing, structuring, negotiating and syndicating debt products, and developing investor relationships to support SMBC's syndication and distribution activities in Asia-Pacific (including Japan). Responsibilities Manage and develop direct reports, including completing performance reviews, development plans, performance management processes and providing day to day guidance to direct reports on daily issues as required. Foster a positive working environment where all employees are highly customer focused, can deliver creative solutions and strive for excellence. Set up, maintain and review organisational structure, systems, policies, processes and procedures to guide, support, inform, service and monitor the prime functions of SMBC. Understand and ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and branch policies and procedures, which apply to SMBC and/or its operations. Participate in appropriate business associations, networks and activities relevant to SMBC's interests. Prepare term sheets, offer letters, financing proposals, and underwriting approvals. Assist in formulating syndication and structured credit distribution strategies while participating in buying, selling, or trading loan assets in secondary markets as needed. Work on a range of Asset Recycling and Investor Coverage working group activities as a coordinator for the Sydney branch. Develop investor relationships with non-banks, asset managers and pension funds in line with the O&D strategy. To succeed in this role you will have 10 years banking experience in corporate banking and/or syndication, with preference for experience in an International/Investment bank or major Australian bank. Experience in structuring loans and negotiating terms and conditions with clients, credit and legal firms. Established relationships with clients and banks in the Australian market. Solid sales and negotiation skills to business level (or aspirations to develop these skills on the job and through training). Ability to make quality presentations to both internal parties and clients whilst working towards and managing tight deadlines. Experience of developing key stakeholder relationships within a business. Strong written and verbal business communication skills and strong interpersonal and influencing skills. Open to significant domestic and international travel. University graduate majoring in banking and finance.
