Breast Service – Surgical Research Fellow This is a 12-month Part Time Fixed Term position commencing 2nd February at 0.4 EFT / 34.4 Hours per Fortnight Breast Research Fellow - Position Description The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care. Unit Description: The RMH Breast Oncology & Endocrine Surgery (BOE) Unit falls under the Department of General Surgical Specialties. It is also a key component of the Parkville Precinct Breast Service with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Unit activities include weekly multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings, surgical operating lists, and involvement with North Western BreastScreen. About the role: The Breast Service Surgery Research Fellowship is a Part Time Fixed Term position at 0.4 EFT / 34.4 hours per fortnight that will involve clinical research within the combined RMH/Women’s Breast Service. The position involves new and on-going research projects aimed at improving the management of DCIS and early breast cancer. The major areas of interest are: The use of MRI and contrast-enhanced mammography in the screening, assessment and surveillance of early breast cancer. Optimal management of Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. Patient Reported Outcome Measures in those with early breast cancer. The Research Fellow will work under the supervision of the Director of Breast Surgical Research and the Head of the Breast Service, and alongside the Breast Surgery Research Nurse and Data Manager. There will be close collaboration with the Breast imaging service at RMH and the Women’s. The position would suit a surgical registrar or recent graduate who would like to experience breast-related clinical research. The Fellow will be welcome to attend various multidisciplinary meetings and will have the chance to participate in some breast surgical operating lists. Other opportunities will be available. About You: Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates) MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications F.R.A.C.S or equivalent Ability to work in a team Well-developed communication and presentation skills.
