About the Role We are looking for a commercially astute and technically expert Power & Energy Director to lead all aspects of external power procurement and delivery for our expanding portfolio of data centre developments across the UK and continental Europe. In this pivotal role, you will shape and execute the strategy for securing reliable, scalable, and cost-effective power solutions that support our growth ambitions. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in the UK power industry, including regulatory frameworks, grid infrastructure, and commercial contracting, while also demonstrating creativity and strategic thinking in navigating complex energy challenges. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and execution of the company’s power strategy across all sites. Identify and secure optimal grid connection solutions, balancing cost, speed, and scalability. Negotiate and manage power connection agreements with IPCs (Independent Power Connections) and IDNOs (Independent Distribution Network Operators). Evaluate and recommend innovative energy solutions including renewables, private wires, and energy storage. Collaborate closely with the Development Director to assess power availability and feasibility for new site acquisitions. Lead power-related due diligence (DD) activities, including grid capacity studies, infrastructure assessments, and risk analysis. Provide input into master planning and phasing strategies based on power delivery timelines. Lead planning and delivery power cable route connections. Partner with Engineering on the design and procurement of site sub-station and manage subsequent delivery. Maintain expert-level understanding of UK energy regulations, Ofgem policies, and National Grid frameworks. Represent the company in industry forums, regulatory consultations, and stakeholder engagements. Develop understanding of EU energy regulations and related local regulations in Netherlands and Germany. Develop business cases and financial models for power infrastructure investments. Support budgeting and forecasting for power-related capital and operational expenditures. Ensure commercial alignment between power delivery and overall site development timelines. What We’re Looking For: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field; advanced qualifications are desirable. Proven track record in power infrastructure delivery, ideally within data centres, utilities, or large-scale industrial developments. Deep knowledge of UK electricity market, grid connection processes, and regulatory environment. Strong network across DNOs, IDNOs, IPCs, and energy consultants. Commercially minded with the ability to balance technical detail with strategic outcomes. Experience negotiating complex energy contracts and managing external stakeholders. Results-oriented and driven by success. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication and change management skills.
