The Kids Advanced Therapeutics (KAT) is an initiative of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN). KAT builds on SCHN’s existing national leadership in paediatric translational research and the delivery of clinical trials for children, enhancing our capacity to undertake life-changing and ground-breaking clinical trials in gene therapy, biologics, and other personalised medicines and devices for children with rare disorders. This is a key position under the KAT program and its primary purpose is to lead and support the development, implementation, and evaluation of a patient-centred framework for the safe and effective delivery of gene therapies SCHN. Funded through a strategic grant, the Research Fellow will document health system processes, and contribute to the translation of complex therapeutic innovations into sustainable models of paediatric care. This role will contribute to broader health system readiness for advanced therapeutics in genetic disease. Selection Criteria: MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an advanced trainee or equivalent. Demonstrated experience in paediatric genetic disease or advanced therapeutics: Evidence of clinical or research experience in paediatrics, rare diseases, or gene therapy, or a clear interest in pursuing work in these areas. Understanding of research methodologies and ethics: Familiarity with research design, ethics approval processes, and the principles of human research ethics, ideally with experience in literature review, qualitative research, or clinical audit. Strong written and verbal communication skills: Ability to clearly present complex concepts in writing and in person to diverse stakeholders including clinicians, researchers, and patient families. Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams: Demonstrated capacity to contribute effectively as part of a team involving medical, nursing, allied health, research and administrative professionals. Strong organisational skills: and ability to manage competing priorities Ability to plan and manage time effectively, work to deadlines, and adapt to changing project needs within a structured research framework.
