️ Senior Design Engineer (Civil & Structural) – Rail Sector Glasgow, Scotland (Hybrid) £55,000 – £65,000 Car/Allowance Benefits Confidential national civil engineering contractor | Rail & Infrastructure Design About the Role I’m recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer (Civil & Structural) to join an established in-house design team supporting major rail infrastructure frameworks across Scotland. You’ll take technical ownership of projects from feasibility through detailed design, working on bridge reconstructions, platform renewals, station enhancements, and related civils schemes. This is a key hire for a forward-thinking business known for combining design innovation with robust delivery expertise across civil, structural, and multi-disciplinary rail projects. Key Responsibilities Lead design delivery across bridges, structures, and civil assets from concept through to detailed design. Produce, review, and check engineering calculations, drawings, and design reports. Ensure designs comply with Eurocodes, Network Rail and DMRB standards, and company procedures. Communicate design philosophy clearly with project teams, clients, and stakeholders. Manage and mentor junior engineers, supporting their technical development. Represent the design function in client and site meetings. Champion innovation, safety, and quality throughout the design process. Maintain awareness of programme, budget, and quality targets. About You Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering. Chartered or Incorporated (CEng/IEng) – or working toward professional accreditation. Proven background in rail, civils, or structures design, ideally within frameworks or design-and-build environments. Hands-on with design and analysis software (e.g., TSD, MIDAS, Superstress, AutoCAD). Strong communicator and collaborator, confident in both client and team-facing settings. Passionate about mentoring others and leading by example.
