Sports Mentor / Behaviour Support Assistant Location: Birmingham & Surrounding Areas Type: Full-Time / Long-Term Salary: £85–£95 per day (depending on experience and/or qualifications) Start Date: [Insert Start Date] The School and Role Are you passionate about sport, fitness, and inspiring young people? ABC Teachers are seeking energetic and motivated Sports Mentors / Behaviour Support Assistants to work across SEND and SEMH schools in the Birmingham area. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in sport, coaching, or physical education who want to make a positive impact on the lives of young people with additional needs. You’ll use your enthusiasm for physical activity to build strong relationships, promote engagement, and support both learning and behaviour in and outside the classroom. As a Sports Mentor, you will: Support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Use sport and movement as a tool to encourage focus, confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Assist teachers with lessons and interventions, both in the classroom and during PE sessions. Model positive behaviour, communication, and social interaction. Supervise students during activities, school trips, and outdoor learning. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A background or strong interest in sport, fitness, or coaching. Experience working with young people, ideally in an education or youth setting. A proactive, positive, and energetic approach. Patience, empathy, and confidence in managing behaviour calmly. A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one). This role is particularly suited to sports coaches, PE graduates, youth workers, or anyone looking to transition into education and make a real difference.
