Job Description
Job Title: Interventional Special Procedures Technologist Profession: IR Tech Specialty: Procedural Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 4x10, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Interventional Special Procedures setting in either IR or vascular hybrid setting License: ARRT Radiography Certifications: Basic Life Support Must-Have: Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiology Technology Able to function independently during procedures after appropriate orientation and competency on unit Competency in all aspects of interventional and vascular procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection Understanding of anatomy and pathology Description: Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator or department manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for the procedure. Capable of performing procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural settings. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Completion of VI competencies. Able to use critical thinking skills. Work in conjunction with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists. Prepares the patient for the procedure. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure. Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures. Quality and Patient Safety: Verifies patient ID using two patient identifiers, e.g., armband, DOB, verbal identification. Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker. Verifies written order and consent, seeks clarification if the order or consent is unclear. Uses and understands pre-procedural verification/time-out form. Understands and complies with site/side marking when indicated. Departmental Responsibilities: Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs. Able to work scheduled and on-call. Knows existing lines of communication and authority. Handles communications properly. Introduces self to patients and/or guardians utilizing proper scripting. Transports patients as needed. Provides privacy and comfort for patients and customers. Assists with maintenance of departmental records and performance improvement. Completes necessary paperwork. Answers departmental phone using proper scripting. Maintains stock levels and checks for outdates. Maintains current license and BLS certifications. Assists in in-service training for other medical imaging staff as appropriate. Works as a team with other staff to obtain the best possible outcome. Performs any other duties as needed when asked by leadership. Patient Education: Responsible for patient, family, and support system education. Provides post-procedural home care instructions as needed. Required for all jobs: Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
