Job Description
The Workshop Assistant will provide hands-on support to technicians in the installation, removal, and maintenance of pumps, gearboxes, and related equipment. This role involves assisting with day-to-day workshop operations, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. The ideal candidate will be reliable, proactive, and eager to learn within a technical workshop environment. Key Responsibilities: Technical Assistance: Support pump technicians during the installation, removal, and overhauling of pumps, gearboxes, and other mechanical equipment, both in the workshop and on-site. Workshop Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the workshop and yard areas by performing general housekeeping duties. Tool & Equipment Handling: Fetch, clean, and maintain tools and workshop equipment; assist with moving parts and machinery using trolleys, pallet jacks, or hoists under supervision. Preventative Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of pumps and components to ensure efficient operation. Material Preparation: Prepare materials and components for assembly, repair, or welding in accordance with work instructions. Inventory Support: Assist with monitoring stock levels, restocking supplies, and keeping accurate records of materials and parts. Documentation: Accurately complete job cards, worksheets, and time records as required. Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Key Requirements: Education: Minimum Grade 12 (Matric). A technical or mechanical qualification/certificate will be an advantage. Experience: 12 years of experience in a workshop or mechanical maintenance environment preferred. Skills & Competencies: Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of tools and workshop equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices. Good organizational and communication skills. Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks. Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn. Other Requirements: Valid drivers license (advantageous). Willingness to work overtime or assist on-site when required.
