Job Description

The role The Natural Perils Pricing Actuary / Specialist will support the Pricing team and company on insurance pricing decisions through robust, accurate and timely data driven analysis and insight. This senior technical role supports the pricing, underwriting and risk management of natural peril risks through data analysis, modelling, technical review, research of emerging data and methods, and providing appropriate advice to senior management. What Experience You’ll Bring General To undertake analytical tasks efficiently, thoroughly, with due care and minimal mistakes. This includes: Develop industry-leading pricing solutions for natural peril risks Provide pivotal actuarial advice and support, with a focus on technical excellence, integrity and continuous improvement Analyse, interpret, and extrapolate data from a number of sources to resolve complex issues Manage data, conduct complex technical analysis, draw insights and apply commercial acumen Implement rating changes to the live pricing system, including testing and post-live monitoring, and quantify the expected impact on the portfolio Perform regular and ad-hoc reporting Prepare and present papers to communicate results, insights, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences Support wider business with technical queries related to pricing and natural peril risk Engage key stakeholders, communicate findings and recommend next steps Collaborate with analytical colleagues across the company (e.g. underwriting, sales, marketing, IT) SAS/EDW/GCP/Data Lake Ensure data is delivered in a timely and robust manner Consider and evaluate improvements to pricing infrastructure as it relates to external data (e.g. new functionality, alternate software platforms) Engage with business to enhance the value and utilisation of data for pricing and other use cases Other Perform other reasonable and relevant activities as requested from time to time to meet operational requirements Adhere to all pricing policies and procedures Test IT changes and effectively identify potential issues before go-live Mentor and guide junior team members What You’ll Bring to the Team Minimum 5 years’ experience in general insurance pricing, preferably with experience of natural perils risk pricing Analytical mindset Excellent attention to detail Proven analytical and problem solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Programming knowledge (e.g. SAS, R, GCP) Degree qualified in mathematics, actuarial studies, data science or similar Our Perks Location – Toowong Close to a variety of public transport and easy parking options, the Toowong office has excellent end of trip facilities (including secure bike storage and showers), outdoor spaces and plenty of modern collaborative areas to work and connect with colleagues.
