Setting and Reporting The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. These positions are located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy, within the Return-Refurbish-Reuse (3R) Program Management team, Supply Chain Service. These positions report directly to the Chief, 3R Program Management. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Vehicle Technician will assist in the refurbishment of equipment and vehicles returned from peacekeeping operations for the following duties: Services and repairs vehicles such as heavy equipment, including heavy-duty truck and semi-tractors, material handling equipment, excavators, skidders, hydraulics, bulldozers, graders, cranes, and backhoes to manufacturers' specifications and standards in accordance with vehicle manufacture standards and schedules. Ensures that all relevant safety procedures have been followed when repairing and fitting replacement components and parts. Conducts pre-delivery vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repair activities on UN-owned vehicles such as heavy equipment, including heavy-duty truck and semi-tractors, material handling equipment, excavators, skidders, hydraulics, bulldozers, graders, cranes, and backhoes to manufacturers' specifications and standards. Produces reports to document all servicing and repairs. Assists in identifying, diagnosing, and rectifying mechanical and electrical systems on heavy equipment, including air brake and pneumatic systems, transmissions, and computer controls. Assists with the identification of required spare parts for the refurbishment of the vehicle and equipment, and cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment. Conduct rigorous testing to verify that the repaired asset meets required performance standards and operates correctly. Performs any other tasks as required. Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Job - Specific Qualification Valid driving license type B is required. Valid driving license type C is required. A valid forklift permit (3 tons) is required. A technical or vocational certificate in heavy-duty vehicle mechanic, or other related fields, is desirable. Work Experience At least three (03) years of experience in maintaining and repairing various types of heavy-duty motor vehicles and related equipment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in the application of the guidelines and procedures relative to the safe operation of workshop equipment, such as vehicle lifts, engine hoists, and various other electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, is required. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. Candidate selected for this position will be granted a fixed-term appointment limited (“FTA-limited”) in accordance with section 2.2 (b) of administrative instruction ST/AI/2013/1 on Administration of fixed-term appointments. Renewal of appointment is contingent upon continued existence of mandate and availability of funding. If this position is discontinued, the incumbent will be separated from service.
