Job Description
Summary Summary: The Business Development and Marketing Specialist serves as a liaison to assigned practice teams in the Asia Pacific region, and works directly with lawyers to develop and execute clear strategies and business plans, and manage an aligned range of business development pursuits, marketing campaigns and communications, client events and sponsorships, and key account activity. Projects may include: securing panel and other appointments through the submission of written proposals/pitches; assisting in the maintenance of business development and marketing collateral for the group (including experience databases); monitoring progress against planned priorities; preparing rankings and awards submissions and undertaking other activities aimed at improving the profile of the practices; and developing strategies for participation in or planning of major client programs. The Specialist takes an active role in learning about the Firm’s practices, and helps develop projects to enhance the groups’ and the Firm’s internal knowledge about its clients and business in order to foster cross-selling. Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities: Proposals and Pitches: Serves as lead project manager for RFPs and pitches (primarily in PowerPoint format), both for primary assigned practices and other groups, as necessary. Spearheads briefing discussions to propose and/or understand the opportunity. Writes new business proposals, conducts matter research and produces targeted, tailored responses to RFIs/RFPs. Supports follow-up, debriefs activities post-pitch, and reports results. Practice and Client Development: Leads practice group submissions of rankings, surveys, league tables, and other ratings information. Develops and refines processes and procedures relating to the practices’ business development tools and systems (e.g., written collateral; experience database/matter lists; contact lists; opportunity tracking; etc.). Maintains an acute level of quality control to ensure that all marketing collateral, communications, deal or matter lists and the like are consistent, error-free and up to date. Ensures processes are efficient and the best possible use is made of available technology and other resources. Prepares practice/matter descriptions for marketing materials and digital communications platforms, including news items, brochures and website content. Coordinates with the Market Intelligence and Research teams to conduct industry and client research to aid in practice development initiatives. Recommends and facilitates the involvement of Firm lawyers in professional organizations that will enhance the visibility of the lawyers and the Firm in global and industry platforms. Tracks and analyzes practice initiatives and how those initiatives impact the group's budget and to provide evaluation of past initiatives to determine if there is sufficient ROI to repeat those initiatives. Facilitates the planning, implementation and follow-up of new business or cross-marketing opportunities. Marketing Programs and Communications: Working with the Marketing Programs team, plans and executes firm-hosted/sponsored seminars and receptions for current and prospective clients for assigned practices. Identifies, tracks and relevant regional speaking and other credentialing opportunities for our lawyers; creates relevant materials to support our efforts. Assists with the production and distribution of client newsletters, alerts, and external communications. Generates, edits, and monitors regional content on the Firm’s website and social media platforms, including WeChat and LinkedIn. Qualifications Qualification Requirements: Required: A minimum of five (5) years of professional marketing, business development, or other relevant experience A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Language skills: Fluent/native level English and Chinese (written and spoken) Excellent writing and proofreading skills Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Preferred: Professional marketing or business development experience and/or strategic planning, sales, market assessment or positioning in a law firm or other professional services industry Working knowledge of customer relationship, pipeline, and experience management databases such as InterAction, Salesforce, and/or Foundation M.B.A. or J.D. a considerable plus Advanced PowerPoint presentation skills Other Skills and Abilities: The following will also be required of the successful candidate: Excellent organizational skills Excellent attention to detail Good judgment Strong interpersonal communication skills Strong analytical and problem solving skills Able to work harmoniously and effectively with others Able to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion Able to work under pressure Able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities Personal data collected will be used for recruitment purposes only and all application will be treated in strict confidence.
