Marketing & Communications Intern

Hope is a clinical, educational, and therapeutic provider for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder. We exist to help children and their families reach their maximum potential by providing state-of-the-art applied behavioral analysis therapies and access to recreation, vocational training, and individualized education programming. Our mission is to provide the best services in the most inclusive environments to encourage persons to fulfill their individual potential through evidence-based treatment, advocacy, and community education.

Hope is seeking a candidate to fill a paid internship role supporting our Marketing & Communications team in Springfield, IL. Through the internship, the student will learn about the ins and outs of marketing for a 700+ employee, multi-state, nonprofit agency. The intern will work closely with the rest of the team to design marketing materials and communications pieces, plan local fundraising events, and assist in communicating Hope’s mission and vision to the community. Through this position, the student will gain concrete experience while making a tangible difference for individuals with disabilities in our community. Internships will be designed to facilitate the student’s learning and growth in their chosen concentration of communications work.

Essential Duties:

  • Attend conference calls and meetings with stakeholders, vendors, programmatic teams, etc.
  • Create social media calendar that encompasses all of our social media accounts; schedule postings according to the social media calendar.
  • Create content for social media, websites, intranet, and marketing materials.
  • Assist in the planning process and material creation for special events, including the Hopeful Futures Gala and Style of Hope fundraising events.
  • Gather analytics for social media and websites.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of Experience Hope tours for stakeholders and community members.
  • Work with vendors to procure printed and digital marketing materials.
  • Photograph Hope students and clients for marketing materials and websites.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of public relations, media relations, and community outreach.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under deadlines.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications and graphic design/video editing software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Communications, Marking, Journalism, or Public Relations major/minor preferred.
