Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon’s Retail business growth WW through three core tasks: Selection, Defect Elimination, and supporting operational processes where there is an air gap in the tech stack. The tech team in RBS develops automation that leverages machine learning and other advanced technologies to scale execution of high-complexity tasks that currently require human cognitive skills. Our solutions ensure that information in Amazon's catalog is complete, correct, and comprehensive enough to give Amazon customers a great shopping experience every time. As an SDE, you will explore modeling approaches, determine appropriate abstraction levels, and make design trade-offs that influence a multi-billion dollar business. You will work with talented peers to build robust engineering platforms that solve high-impact issues and drive engineering and operational excellence. Key job responsibilities We are looking for a sharp, experienced software developer with a diverse skillset and background. As an SDE-2, your work is consistently of high quality. You solve difficult problems, apply appropriate technologies and best practices, and collaborate with your team to invent, design, and build software that is stable and performant. You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when to use them. You limit short-term workarounds, create flexible software without over-engineering, make appropriate trade-offs, promote re-use, and judiciously introduce dependencies. You are efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU). You work on ideas with customers, stakeholders, and peers, and help your team evolve through code reviews, design discussions, planning, and ticket/metric reviews. You focus on operational excellence, identify problems, and propose solutions. You undertake projects and implement software enhancements that improve team software and processes. You are able to train new teammates on how the team’s software is constructed, operates, and fits into the bigger picture. 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience Experience programming with at least one software programming language Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience Experience programming with at least one software programming language Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 3 years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience Bachelor\'s degree in computer science or equivalent Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
