This is a 12 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026 Hedland Senior High School (SHS), located in the Pilbara, is an Independent Public-School catering for students from Year 7 to Year 12. The Role The Rise Up program, established in 2022, forms a part of the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership, is a whole-school initiative designed to support all students at Hedland SHS in achieving personal growth and success. Designed to add value to school core business and based on a framework of tiers of opportunity, the program encourages students to “rise up” in key areas such as attendance, academic achievement, leadership, mentoring, and community engagement. This outstanding program promotes student achievement and wellbeing by providing all students across Years 7 to 12 extended opportunities to positively engage with their school and community and to celebrate success. The Rise Up Teacher works alongside students to develop targets for improvement and co-designs plans to assist students to meet them, and works with internal and external stakeholders to provide a range of learning opportunities to support small group learning.Through this work, students improve their mastery, generosity, independence, and sense of belonging, enhancing overall wellbeing. The Rise Up Teacher leads whole school assemblies and enhances opportunities for student voice through the Student Leadership Team and also supports students in their leadership growth and development. The Rise Up Teacher collaborates with staff to actively seeks out meaningful opportunities for students to improve, develop, and demonstrate their skills through real-world experiences. This includes encouraging student involvement in activities such as volunteering, completion of SCSA Endorsed Programs and community projects that align with student interests and future goals. The Rise Up Teacher supports students in reflecting on these experiences and guides them in building a portfolio of evidence that showcases their personal growth, capabilities, and readiness for further education or employment. The Rise Up Teacher will work alongside the Positive Behaviour in Schools (PBS) Committee to help develop and embed PBS practices across the school. In this role, you will support the development of a consistent, whole-school approach to behaviour, promote a positive and inclusive learning environment, and assist in implementing strategies that foster student wellbeing and engagement. Improving and celebrating student attendance, academic achievement, and community engagement ensures students across Years 7 to 12 are better prepared to obtain employment, aligning to BHP key focus area ‘Future of Work - enhancing human capability by contributing to the education, empowerment, and upskilling of people and systems, to be successful in obtaining employment now and into the future’. This position will include a small teaching component in alignment with the successful applicant’s skill set and the needs of the school. The successful applicant will also be expected to meet BHP Pilbara Education Partnership contract deliverables, including quarterly, bi-annual and annual levels of reporting, and monitor the Rise Up budget.
