Job Location

Reggio Emilia, Italy

Job Description

Overview Please, only apply if you have a valid Attorney at Law license and are authorised to practise law by the Regulation Authority in Italy. Join AirAdvisor – Innovate, Lead, and Make an Impact About Us AirAdvisor is dedicated to ensuring air travelers receive the compensation they are entitled to for flight disruptions, including delays, cancellations, missed connections, or airline-related issues such as overbooking. In June 2025, we launched a new baggage-claims service for lost, delayed, and/or destroyed luggage. We operate in the EU, UK, and other international markets, focusing on protecting air passenger rights globally. We have processed over 500,000 claims for clients from 221 countries, with a 4.7-star rating from 25,550 reviews. We currently operate in 21 languages (with 9 more forthcoming this year) and are a fast-growing startup planning international expansion to reach 1 million claims by the end of 2026. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Litigation Lawyer specializing in consumer flight claims (typically via small claims procedure) to lead in-court collections, owning or intending to open their own boutique Legal Firm in Italy. Pre-court collections are managed by a team of paralegals. You will be responsible for filing batches of court cases to collect compensation and/or reimbursement of Out-of-Pocket Expenses (OPE) incurred by passengers and/or recover ticket refunds. AirAdvisor currently handles three types of airline claims: EU261 compensation for delays, cancellations, and denied boarding; and three types of baggage claims under the Montreal Convention: lost, delayed, and/or destroyed luggage. If the law or a judge decides the case unfairly, we would consider escalating this to influence the law where feasible. There may be PR opportunities regarding court victories and essential legal issues to raise public awareness. This is an excellent opportunity for high performers who can self-perform, have strong litigation experience, and a passion for advocating consumer rights in the airline industry. The candidate must be free from conflicts of interest, i.e., free to litigate claims against different airlines. Requirements : A valid Attorney at Law license in Italy and professional liability insurance. A law degree from an accredited institution. Experience with small claims, consumer rights, or aviation law is a plus, but not required. Knowledge of relevant consumer protection laws and aviation regulations is a plus, but not required. Proven track record of success in in-court collection. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess case merits, conduct legal research, and develop effective legal strategies. Ability to manage a caseload, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and track statute of limitations. Experience in automating and standardizing claims management processes to scale up quickly. Responsibilities : Act as the legal representative of AirAdvisor in Italy, handling all legal matters and claims filed within the jurisdiction. If setting up a law firm in Italy were feasible, you would be expected to assist in this matter, including, but not limited to, corporate structuring, registering relevant personnel on official lists, and other formalities. Pre-court collections and out-of-court settlements. Prepare and file batches of approximately 200 new claims monthly in Italian courts against various airlines to recover: a) Compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004 and/or Turkish SHY Regulation for delays, cancellations, and denied boarding. b) Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses under EU261/2004 and/or the Montreal Convention. c) Ticket refunds owed to passengers under applicable legal frameworks. d) Handle baggage-related claims under the Montreal Convention and/or Warsaw Convention. Respond comprehensively and assertively to airline legal defences, including substantive arguments and procedural/jurisdictional challenges. Lead the enforcement of court judgments, including initiating enforcement proceedings and coordinating with bailiffs or enforcement authorities when necessary. Engage in court-led settlement negotiations and represent AirAdvisor’s interests in securing favorable in-court settlements where applicable. Maintain complete and accurate legal case files, ensuring compliance with Italian legal ethics, data protection regulations, and professional standards. Conduct thorough legal research and comparative analysis to manage recurring legal issues in airline and consumer rights litigation. Stay informed about developments in consumer protection law, aviation regulations, EU regulations, and judicial precedents to provide updated, authoritative legal advice and representation. If a court decision is unjust, pursue legal remedies, including appeals, where strategically feasible. Support the optimization and automation of claims management workflows, leveraging legal technology solutions, including AI-based tools, to improve efficiency and scalability. Identify and propose new civil claims opportunities viable under Italian law with low-value, high-volume potential, including areas such as bank/financial disputes and labor law-related claims. Conduct cross-jurisdictional legal research across EU and UK markets to identify precedents and practices adaptable for Italy. Represent AirAdvisor in local media, coordinating with the PR Manager for opportunities surrounding landmark court rulings or critical legal developments. Review and vet content as needed to help build local trust and authority. Advocate for passenger and consumer rights within the airline and travel industry. Soft skills : Professional, ambitious, and open to testing new AI optimization solutions and new approaches to the claims management process. Self-aware, honest, and able to take responsibility for mistakes while driving continuous improvement. Result-oriented with a proven ability to deliver fast and make a significant impact on business. Independent, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously without constant supervision. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely. We offer : Remote-first culture with flexible start and end times. Hours are tracked in our time-tracking app to allow flexible daily schedules. Paid Time Off and Public Holidays – work-life balance matters. Annual pay review and performance-based bonuses. Professional Growth Opportunities – work on global expansion and new market entry.
