HR Intern â HR Generalist with a focus on Learning & Development

Job Description
Purpose of the Role: This opportunity is designed to give exposure to the full spectrum of HR, with an emphasis on Learning & Development (L&D). The intern will assist with projects that build employee capability, engagement, and performance, while also gaining hands-on experience in talent management, employee relations, and HR compliance. Two weeks of every month will be dedicated to Learning & Development initiatives, ensuring consistent, deep exposure in this area. Key Responsibilities: Learning & Development (Core Focus 2 weeks every month): Support the design, coordination, and rollout of training programs, workshops, and e-learning initiatives. Assist with maintaining training records, reporting, and compliance with the Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) & Annual Training Report (ATR). Help evaluate training effectiveness using feedback surveys and metrics. Support the onboarding program for new hires, ensuring alignment with Defys culture and values. Assist in compiling budgets and tracking training spend. General HR Exposure (Other 2 weeks of each month): Support HR projects such as Employment Equity planning, HR reporting, diversity & inclusion, and employee engagement surveys. Assist with recruitment and onboarding activities, including drafting job adverts, screening applications, and induction support. Shadow HR Business Partners to learn about performance management, employee relations, and policy application. Contribute to HR communications and campaigns that promote HR initiatives. Provide administrative support across HR functions (contracts, employee data, compliance records). Requirements: South African unemployed between the ages of 18 and 34 Must not have participated on the YES Programme before A matric certificate will be required. A National Diploma or the equivalent, in Human Resource Management/Development, will be required. An excellent understanding of Labour Relations Legislation, HR Practices, Policies and Procedures will be required. Working knowledge of HR Best Practices throughout the HR Value Chain, as well as HR Technology will be advantageous Excellent Microsoft Excel skills Experience in organizing and prioritizing a busy workload High degree of confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail Good communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and customers.
