Sister System is seeking a peer mentor. Sister System is a North London-based, multi-award-winning charity that works with care-affected girls (13–24 years old) to provide special accredited mentorship and educational programmes, thereby bridging the gap between them and mainstream society. The organisation's vision is to empower girls through equitable opportunities, while its mission is to work alongside them to enhance their mental resilience and self-belief. We are looking for a peer mentor who will work with young women affected by the care system between the ages of 13 and 24. The Sister System is a cutting-edge, empowering, comprehensive learning program with therapeutic and peer mentoring at its core. Through these programs, every sis-star may improve their self-belief and mental toughness, putting them on an empowered path to successful relationships and upward social mobility. The primary responsibilities of the position include carrying out the agreed-upon role of peer mentor to deliver against Sister System’s programmes. Salary: £29,000-£33,000 p.a. Benefits Full time - 40 hours per week (including lunch break) 33 days holiday entitlement (includes 8 UK bank holidays) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) budget. Full induction Discounted Meals Person Specification We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and positive individual to join our team. (It would be desirable if you had lived experience/or understanding of the care system). Ability to be able to motivate others. Ability to lead and work productively as part of a team. Excellent communication, organisational skills and meeting deadlines. Brings energy, enthusiasm and ideas to the organisation Model the charity's values, champion them, and work within our policies and practices. Ability to handle sensitive information in a professional manner, and in line with our policies and GDPR. A commitment to/an understanding of equity, inclusion and diversity. A commitment to personal and professional development. You will be responsible for maintaining reports and accurate records for your caseload. Essential Requirements You will have experience managing a varied case load of young people including those who are seen to be high risk. You will have experience delivering 1:1 sessions and small group work to girls and young women. Ability to engage and motivate young women towards achieving their potential. To deliver and support the delivery of programmes following the Sister System mentoring model. To deliver in both the Sister System office, schools/colleges and local community. Undertake and deliver group sessions, co-facilitate on workshops, networking sessions and all other Sister System programme related deliverables. To perform all legal and best practice safeguarding duties. Leading 1:1 mentoring sessions and small group work to boost resilience and confidence. Supporting the delivery of programmes in accordance with Sister System mentoring model. Delivering in the Sister System offices and local community. Undertaking group sessions, co-facilitating workshops, networking sessions, and other Sister System programme deliverables. Ensuring all administrative duties are maintained to a high level. Ensuring all data capture is done in a timely manner and to high standard. Fulfilling all legal and best practice safeguarding duties Other generic duties. Other such agreed activities, e.g., attending meetings and acting as an ambassador for the Sister System, promoting the mission, visions, and aims of the organisation. To be available for away days, day trips and respite trips planned for mentees as part of their programme. To support with the coordination of Sister System events during the contracted year. (Christmas and graduation). To ensure all relevant paperwork and persons are notified and completed in accordance with Sister Systems processes. To ensure all policies and procedures in relation to record keeping, administration of information sharing and keeping, and safeguarding are adhered to. To attend to internal and external supervision as agreed and arranged. To aid the smooth running of the organisation To help achieve its goals Sister System wants to grow its delivery team in order to achieve lofty but essential objectives as it starts its next three-year plan. Along with skill, time, passion, and industry knowledge, the position also calls for a dedication to the team and the philanthropic goals, as well as a readiness to boldly network on behalf of the charity. An energetic, upbeat professional who is driven to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to thrive and can handle a demanding caseload. This job requires someone who is driven, resilient, and dedicated to truly, long-lastingly improving the lives of young girls and women around the capital. The job description includes identifying and removing obstacles, assisting in the discovery of young women's goals, and creating a route to allow them to live abuse-free, mentally healthy lives so they can pursue their education and careers. Qualifications Required qualifications include an understanding of the care system, statutory services, and the wider eco-system that supports care-affected young people; experience in delivering 1:1 and small group work to girls and young women (13–24 years old); experience working within a contextual safeguarding context; and experience working with social care and educational service providers.
