Senior Payroll and HR Adviser Location: Hull, UK Reporting to: Head of HR Role overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll and HR Adviser to take ownership of our end-to-end payroll operations and provide high-quality HR support. Reporting to the Head of HR, this is a hands-on role requiring excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple payrolls across different entities. The role also includes line management of a part-time Payroll Administrator and broader HR responsibilities including recruitment administration, contract and benefit coordination, HRIS management, and benefits administration. The role will be based in our Hull office, and may require occasional travel to our head office in London. In addition to supporting Progressive Media Investments, this role will also cover payroll operations for several privately owned businesses within the Danson family portfolio, including The Samling Hotel, Estel, and Accelerate Ventures. This offers a unique opportunity to work across a diverse set of industries - from media and investment to luxury hospitality - delivering accurate, end-to-end payroll support in a fast-paced and high-trust environment. Key responsibilities Payroll (primary focus): Manage and run end-to-end payroll for c.160 employees across 9 UK payroll companies (7 monthly, 1 X weekly, 1x for 2 months of year). Supervise and provide guidance to the part-time Payroll Administrator, ensuring accuracy and timely completion of payroll tasks. Coordinate outsourced payroll for a small US team (c. 6 employees) and manage the Employer of Record (EOR) relationship for one European employee. Ensure accuracy of all payroll data, deductions, and statutory requirements (tax, NI, pensions, etc.). Manage payroll processes via Rippling, ensuring compliance and efficient workflows. Prepare and submit all relevant payroll reports for Finance, HR, and statutory bodies. Maintain pension compliance, including auto-enrolment and monthly pension uploads. Keep up to date with payroll legislation and ensure company compliance at all times. Benefits and pensions: Maintain the ongoing relationship with the company’s benefits broker, supporting the Head of HR and Group Finance Director with annual reviews and renewals. Support administration of employee benefits (eg. private medical insurance, life assurance, other group schemes). Ensure smooth employee enrolment/changes and accurate benefits data reporting. HR support: Provide recruitment administration support, including managing the company LinkedIn account and supporting managers with candidate care. Prepare employee contracts and variations, and coordinate employee benefits administration. Support HR and Finance teams with people data requests and regular reporting. Maintain and update the HRIS (Rippling), ensuring data integrity and accuracy. Act as a first point of contact for payroll and HR-related queries from employees and managers. Skills and experience CIPP qualification, and/or equivalent relevant experience running end-to-end payroll in a multi-entity environment. Up-to-date knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pension compliance, and auto-enrolment. Experience working with outsourced payroll providers (preferably US and international exposure). Experience managing relationships with benefits brokers or benefits providers. HR administration experience, ideally within recruitment, contracts, and benefits. Proficiency in HRIS or payroll systems (experience with Rippling desirable but not essential). High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with employees at all levels. Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
