Benefits: Salary: £23,850 37 hours per week // Flexible working hours // Hybrid working // Half day Fridays! // 25 days holiday plus bank holidays *subject to completing full hours prior to this About us: The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Design Office is to provide engineering expertise in all physical design activities. We design and develop mechanical and thermal products for our Space Systems business units (Earth Observation, Science, Navigation, and Telecommunications). From initial system synoptics to detailed specifications, the Mechanical Design Office (MDO) supports these units by laying out all equipment and creating the Radio Frequency (RF) connectivity designs (Waveguides and coaxial cables) within our spacecraft product lines. We use the Dassault suite of tools (Catia) to accommodate payload equipment in 3D and produce detailed routing and design of RF interconnections. This work is in accordance with the interface block diagram, including stress and thermal justification. Working with the Assembly, Integration, and Test department, we define payload assembly kitting, create installation drawings, and produce bills of materials to ensure our satellites can be assembled smoothly and efficiently. We also support testing activities by creating detailed definitions and designs for jigs, MGSE, and non-flight RF hardware. We are a key driver in the company's digital transformation, supporting the digitalisation of the end-to-end PLM flow and acting as a key player in product digitalisation and data continuity. What you will be doing: As a key member of the CAD Process team, you'll work on the DDMS (Digital Design and Manufacturing Service) Improvement Project. This project is designed to deliver significant financial savings to the business by reducing waste and using digitalization as a key tool to improve end-to-end processes. Your mission will be to specify, develop, and document the process changes required to ensure the successful deployment of a new toolset, including 3DExperience / Catia V6. This will involve collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders both within and outside the Mechanical Design Office to create leaner ways of working. At the end of your placement, you will produce a comprehensive report and present your findings to department managers and other key stakeholders. Requirements: Our placements are open to * Undergraduates only . * Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following; * Ideally currently studying a Mechanical Engineering degree; * Experience and knowledge of CAD/CAM tools, knowledge of the Dassault System tools (Catia V5 or V6, Delmia, Apriso) is preferred; * Some programming skills (VB, VB.net, php, mysql, C#). SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
