Job Description

The criteria is as follows: - Candidates must have completed a 3-year degree or diploma in IT (must be relevant to Network security). Please note that this is NOT a WIL program Candidates must be computer literate and must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet Candidates must have no criminal record. Candidates must currently be unemployed. Candidates must not be participating on another learnership or internship program. Candidates must NOT be enrolled at any tertiary institution. Candidates must live in Gauteng (preferably in the Midrand area) relocation is NOT an option. Candidates must be under the age of 35 as of 1 August 2025 Candidates must be a South African Citizen (African, Asian, Indian) Skills: - Technical Skills (Foundational) Basic Networking Knowledge Understanding of TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP. Firewall Fundamentals Awareness of firewall types (stateful, stateless, NGFW). Understanding firewall rules, access control lists (ACLs), NAT, VPN basics. Operating Systems Familiarity with Windows & Linux environments. Security Concepts Basics of threat types (malware, phishing, DDoS, intrusion). Awareness of CIA Triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability). Troubleshooting Skills Ability to use ping, traceroute, and packet-capture tools (e.g., Wireshark). Hands-On Tools (Entry Level) Will be nice but not a requirement Exposure to at least one firewall platform (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Check Point,). Basic logging/monitoring using SIEM or vendor dashboards. Interpersonal / Soft Skills Willingness to Learn curiosity to pick up new firewall technologies and processes. Communication Skills ability to ask clear questions and explain findings simply. Team Collaboration working with senior engineers, SOC teams, and mentors. Attention to Detail careful when reviewing firewall rules or documentation. Adaptability readiness to learn from mistakes and adjust quickly. Problem-Solving Mindset approaching troubleshooting logically and methodically. Professional Skills Documentation writing simple reports, recording firewall changes, and updating logs. Time Management handling assigned internship tasks within deadlines.
