Principal Consultant Private Markets Decarbonization & Energy Transition Investing Advisor

At ERM, we are committed to supporting our Private Equity clients in their efforts to decarbonize their portfolio companies, creating value and facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our Decarbonization & Energy Transition Investing Team is experiencing significant growth while servicing a large base of private equity and infrastructure investor clients. Our consultants work on a broad range of strategic and operational decarbonization projects at both investor and portfolio company levels. We are seeking a Principal Consultant to join our EMEA-wide team. This role involves developing value-creating ‘Investment Grade’ decarbonization plans that align with both portfolio companies’ needs and General Partner goals, ensuring rapid implementation. The position will be based in Italy, with flexible working arrangements available. The Role : The Principal Consultant will leverage existing client relationships and develop new ones within the private markets’ investor space. Internally, you will provide leadership that motivates staff and contributes to ERM’s projects on decarbonization strategy development and implementation. Responsibilities : Developing strategies to pursue and secure new business opportunities, driving revenue growth. Leading the origination and delivery of decarbonization projects alongside client ESG, climate, investment, and operations teams. Designing and executing ‘Investment Grade’ decarbonization plans for investments, aligning with broader ESG and energy transition goals. Leading multidisciplinary teams across ERM’s expert groups in sustainable energy solutions, M&A, digital, and corporate sustainability. Providing guidance to clients on translating decarbonization initiatives into long-term value-creating business models. Managing energy transition and climate-focused due diligence projects to assess value and mitigate risks, offering recommendations for post-investment decarbonization initiatives. About you : To succeed in this role, you will need : Fluency in English and Italian. Proven experience in delivering ‘investment grade’ decarbonization plans with detailed ROI and MACC analysis. Understanding of broader business value from decarbonization beyond energy savings, including revenue growth and market positioning. Experience managing decarbonization programs within private equity and infrastructure contexts. Deep knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable procurement, low-carbon solutions, and sustainable value chains. Expertise in engaging with private equity and infrastructure investors, guiding senior management on decarbonization strategies, GHG inventories, and setting science-based targets. J-18808-Ljbffr
