Job Description

he Breakdown Controller is responsible for managing and coordinating all vehicle breakdowns to ensure minimal downtime, cost efficiency, and quick resolution. The role requires effective communication with drivers, service providers, and internal departments while maintaining accurate records of all breakdown incidents. Key Responsibilities Receive, log, and manage all incoming breakdown calls. Coordinate roadside assistance and towing services. Liaise with service providers, mechanics, and workshops to ensure quick turnaround times. Communicate with drivers, keeping them informed of progress and updates. Track breakdowns and escalate unresolved issues to management when necessary. Maintain accurate records of all breakdown incidents, costs, and resolutions. Monitor vehicle recovery times and implement measures to reduce downtime. Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety, and transport regulations. Provide daily/weekly/monthly reports on breakdown activities and costs. Assist with general fleet administration when required. Key Skills & Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Computer literacy (MS Office, fleet management systems). Knowledge of vehicle mechanics and fleet operations (advantageous). Qualifications & Experience Grade 12 / Matric (essential). Diploma in Logistics / Fleet Management or related field (advantageous). Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in fleet, transport, or breakdown coordination. Experience within the automotive/transport/logistics industry preferred.
