Special Needs Teacher/Lecturer Location: Hillingdon borough Working Hours; 08:30 am - 16:15 pm. Key Responsibilities As a SEN Lecturer/Teacher , you will: Plan and Deliver Differentiated Learning : Create engaging, individualised lesson plans tailored to the needs and abilities of post-16 SEN learners across a range of subjects, including functional skills, life skills, or vocational training. Support Holistic Development : Foster academic, social, emotional, and personal growth, helping students to gain confidence and independence. Implement and Review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) : Collaborate with support staff, therapists, families, and external agencies to set meaningful goals and track progress. Create an Inclusive Learning Environment : Establish a safe, respectful, and structured classroom environment that encourages participation and development. Assess, Monitor, and Report on Progress : Track learner progress effectively and communicate with parents, carers, and stakeholders to support each student’s journey. Use SEN-Specific Strategies : Apply a range of evidence-based teaching strategies and assistive technologies tailored to various learning needs and conditions. Champion Inclusion : Promote a culture of diversity, acceptance, and empowerment across the college community. Qualifications and Skills Required To excel in this role, you will need: A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent) with QTS or QTLS. A specialist SEN qualification or significant experience teaching learners with additional needs, ideally in a post-16 or college setting. Sound knowledge of autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, communication difficulties, and other complex needs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse learners. Patience, empathy, and a person-centred approach to teaching and support. Experience or familiarity with assistive technologies and communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC is desirable.
