Job Title: Graduate Strategic Trainee Grade: A4 £31,296 (Full Time) Contract Type : Fixed-Term 12 months Hours: Full Time (37 hours per week) Standard office hours: 9am - 5pm Location: Rosanne House, Welwyn Garden City (Hybrid working available). Onsite parking available and direct trainline from London St Pancreas/ Kings Cross. Reports to: Deputy Chief Executive / Rotational across Directorate Leads Organisation: Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire (OPCC) About the Role This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated graduate to join a dynamic public office at the forefront of policing, community safety, and justice reform. As part of a new structure designed to build capability and reach, this 12-month graduate placement offers a unique chance to contribute to strategic communications and high-impact projects, including the Serious Violence duty, Youth Commission and the Prevention Pathfinder Panel. The successful candidate will rotate across three directoratesCommunications and Engagement, Policy & Partnerships, and Resources & Governancegaining broad exposure to strategic communications, policy development, commissioning, and governance. Key Responsibilities Communications & Engagement Support operational and digital communications aligned with the Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) public engagement strategy. Enhance the OPCCs digital presence through timely, inclusive, and engaging content (e.g., TikTok, Threads, Instagram Reels). Contribute to building public confidence and reaching underrepresented audiences. Policy & Partnerships Assist with commissioning analysis for the PCCs Violence Pathfinder Prevention Panel. Conduct horizon scanning for new policies and funding opportunities from the Home Office, Association of Police & Crime Commissioners and the Ministry of Justice. Support development of the Youth Commission and Retail Crime Strategy. Resources & Oversight Support delivery of the PCCs Serious Violence Duty commitments, including bid analysis and partner engagement. Assist with financial analysis, risk management, and compliance activities. What Were Looking For A recent graduate (undergraduate or Masters) (20232025) in public policy, digital communications, social sciences, criminology, or related fields. Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills. Interest in policing, justice reform, and public sector innovation. A clear communicator, curious thinker, and collaborative team player. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data tools. Experience with social media platforms and content creation for diverse audiences. If required to then business insurance will need to be organised by the individual. The post holder may be required to work from different locations other than the home station Police vetting is required, as advised by the vetting unit The post holder will be expected to undertake training as and when required The post holder may be required to work additional hours, but this will be agreed in advance in conjunction with management & the post holder.
