Job Description
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services including bus stations and subsidised bus services, manages large transport infrastructure projects and is responsible for delivery of a long-term multi-modal transport strategy for the West of Scotland. Having upgraded our Subway stations and introduced a new fleet as part of our Subway Modernisation Project, our next major milestone will be transitioning operations to our new state of the art Operational Control Centre. About the role We have a great opportunity to join our Subway Operations Team. The Operational Control Centre (OCC) Controller will safely, efficiently and effectively control the operation of Subway train services in compliance with SPT’s policies, procedures and legislation. They will maintain competencies and participate in the development of modern working practices to enhance subway service performance. The OCC Controller will support the delivery of new systems embedded within the subway modernisation project and take a proactive role in the provision of the Subway service. About you The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of incident response and a good understanding of customer service principles. An in-depth understanding of train operating principles and railway Rules, Regulations and Emergency Procedures are desirable. An understanding of the safety critical requirements of a light railway system and multiple rail control software are also desirable. Experience of working within an Operational Control Centre and liaising with senior staff. You will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal with experience of using communication systems in an operational environment. You will be a highly motivated individual and contribute positively to improve ways of working and embrace evolving changes and technologies. You will be educated to standard grade level in English, Maths and Arithmetic or equivalent. A transport industry professional qualification is desirable. Full time hours will be 35 hours per week working a 5/7 shift pattern. The nature of this role may require you to work outwith normal office hours on occasion to support the operational requirements. You will be based at the Operational Control Centre, Robert Street, Glasgow.
