First Connect Health is seeking a travel nurse RN Labor and Delivery for a travel nursing job in Peoria, Illinois. Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Labor and Delivery Discipline: RN Start Date: 08/18/2025 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours Employment Type: Travel GENERAL SUMMARY: Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and according to department policies and patient care stan¬dards, provides professional patient care services to Obstetric patients requiring an acute level of Maternal-fetal monitoring and intervention. This includes caring for laboring women, without complications of pregnancy, surgical interventions during labor and delivery, and care of complications of the high risk pregnancy. In doing so, promotes the philosophy of family-centered maternity care. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served (childbearing, 10-55 years of age) by the unit. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by assigned shift. Quality/Safety: • Participates in the quality improvement processes at OSF SFMC and/or CHOI. • Accomplishes a high standard of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team functioning as an advocate for those we serve. • Enhances professional growth and development by participating in and utilizing current evidence based information and keeping abreast of state and national accreditation, regulatory and safety standards. • Provides a learning atmosphere by sharing knowledge with coworkers/orientation of new staff and by educating patients and their families to meet their health needs. Communication/Collaboration: • Maintains a strong partnership with physicians, nursing leadership, advanced practice nurses, other staff members, ancillary support, and others to best meet the patient's needs. • Practices and encourages commitment to coworker philosophy. • Gives recognition to others to promote professionalism and the recognition of nursing excellence. • Attends required unit specific meetings and keeps up to date on current issues and practices. • Delegates appropriate responsibility to the skill level of employee, identifies patient safety needs, and effectively communicates patient care needs to appropriate staff. • Provides effective leadership in the delivery of quality nursing care by assessing, planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions and implementing the patient care plan of assigned patients. Fiscal Responsibility/Resource Management: • Practices cooperatively with OSF SFMC and CHOI in support of the strategic plan. • Seeks ways to provide care, service, supplies and equipment that meets patient needs within a reasonable cost structure. • Conserves human and other resources while providing the expected standard of patient care. • Supports the medical center financial initiatives. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: *280 births per month 1. The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the princi¬ples of growth and devel¬opment as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served. 2. Work requires a professional level of knowledge of nursing practice and theory at a level that generally can be acquired by completion and graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. 3. Current State license as a Registered Nurse required. 4. The job incumbent is required to become nationally certified once qualified to test (2 years of employment and 2000 worked hours in specialty). 5. Work requires three to six months unit-specific orientation and on-the-job training to learn department/unit policies, procedures and work routines; to develop proficiency in use of medical equipment and instru¬ments used on assigned unit; to learn nursing care and quality assurance standards; and gain an understanding of the types of patients cared for on unit, their needs, and effective nursing interventions. 6. Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others; to communicate effectively and concisely with other patient care providers; and to instruct patients, family members and/or significant others in self-care/home care procedures. 7. Work requires analytical ability necessary to assess patients' physical, psychological and social needs, develops individual¬ized patient care plans, and evaluate patients' responses to medical and nursing interventions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (The following statements describe the physical abilities required to perform the essential job functions, although exceptions may be made to these requirements based on the principle of reasonable accommodation.) 1. Work requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds on a daily basis. 2. Work requires ability to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds on a daily basis. 3. Work requires ability to stand up to 3 or more hours at a time. 4. Work requires ability to stoop and bend, ability to reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity, ability to communicate with others, and color vision. 5. Work requires ability to push and/or pull wheelchairs, beds, supply carts, and/or patients on gurneys on a daily basis. 6. Work requires ability to lift and position patients on a daily basis. 7. Work requires proofreading and checking documents for accuracy on a daily basis. 8. Work requires ability to use a keyboard to enter and transform words or data on a daily basis. 9. Work requires ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data on a daily basis.
