Job Description Job Description Valley Truck Parts Job Description Form Title Manufacturing Engineer Department(s) Plainfield Engineering Reports to Engineering Manager Working Hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30PM with a 30-minute lunch Job Summary/Objective of Job This is a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer role responsible for developing, launching, and improving production processes for remanufactured truck components—primarily manual transmissions, with future expansion into automated manual transmissions (AMTs). The role oversees the entire process from concept through production handoff, including teardown, cleaning, assembly, testing, reuse validation, and recovery of salvageable parts. Summary of Essential Job Functions Develop and optimize manufacturing processes that improve safety, quality, and efficiency. Lead new product and process launches by defining reuse criteria, process flows, tooling, testing methods, and documentation. Support expansion into automated manual transmissions (AMTs), including test development for electromechanical systems. Evaluate failed parts and lead recovery initiatives using machining, additive manufacturing, or other methods—including cost analysis and implementation. Apply lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and maximize value from each remanufactured core. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve quality or process-related issues. Specify, source, and implement tooling, fixtures, and equipment. Develop and maintain standard work instructions, quality control measures, and technical documentation. Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain teams. Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively across all levels of the organization. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering or engineering technology from an accredited college or university. OR Associate’s degree 2 years of relevant experience. OR 6 years of directly related experience. Experience with manufacturing process development, tooling, and test systems Proficiency with CAD software and technical documentation Familiarity with measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges) Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills Ability to develop cost-effective recovery and salvage techniques Preferred Qualifications Co-op or internship experience in a manufacturing environment (counts toward required experience) Interest or experience in electromechanical systems, automation, or test development Working Conditions Primarily on-site manufacturing environment Exposure to moving mechanical parts, moderate noise levels, and some heavy lifting Occasional travel between facilities or vendor sites as needed Performance Metrics Process efficiency improvements Product quality and reuse success rates Timeliness of project completion Cross-functional collaboration Compliance with safety and lean manufacturing standards Physical Demands Standing, walking, and working on production floor for extended periods Occasional lifting or handling of parts and materials (up to 50 lbs) Frequent use of hands and arms for mechanical assembly and measurement Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required Disclaimer The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
