At our state-of-the-art Cell R&D Facility in Oxfordshire , we’re building something special. Now, we’re looking to expand our talented Cell R&D Function with a passionate Senior Scientist ready to drive innovation at the forefront of battery technology. We are seeking an Experienced Specialist in the field of Semi-Solid-State Batteries (SSSB) or All-Solid-State Batteries (ASSB) to join the Fundamental Research Team , led by Dr Shayan Meysami. this role is ideal for a driven and pragmatic innovator who thrives on solving complex challenges and delivering real-world results – someone who has already made meaningful contributions to the field through hands-on industry experience. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, validate and benchmark key SSSB/ASSB cell components, namely catholytes, anolytes, electrolyte additives, high-capacity active materials and separators. Design and oversee assembling R&D-scale SSSB/ASSB cells and conducting electrochemical tests to understand the impact of materials chemistry, integration and electrode design on cell performance. Investigate the root cause of failure modes and develop suppression strategies. Identify and address the manufacturability challenges of novel SSSB/ASSB. Cross-functionally work with other teams within the Cell R&D to establish a core understanding of the interface engineering at the most fundamental level. Contribute to IP generation through patent searches, prior art analysis, and application drafting. Support roadmap activities and benchmarking of competitive cells and chemistries. Support collaborations with external parties. Oversee the New Technology Introduction (NTI) process. Support the Scientists, Engineers and Technicians around daily experimental activities. Manage and analyse the experimental data, document and report the results. Manage scale-up efforts from concepts to multi-layer pouch cells. What We're Looking For The candidate must have/demonstrate: Industry work experience in the field of SSSB and/or ASSB. Hands-on experience in designing/prototyping cells at multi-layer pouch scale and/or beyond. In-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art SSSB and/or ASSB in areas such as materials chemistry, stack pressure requirements, interface engineering, failure modes and suppression strategies. Core knowledge of materials science, chemistry, analytical sciences, electrochemistry and lithium-ion cells Foundational knowledge of IP management (filing applications, patent search, analysing prior art). Ideal Background A graduate degree in materials science, chemistry or electrochemistry. Prior roles at industry-leading battery developers or manufacturers will be Highly Regarded . Ideal Background A formal qualification in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related Engineering field is advantageous but secondary to practical experience.
