Maintenance Assistant

Purpose: To support the Maintenance Department by performing general maintenance tasks, assisting artisans with repairs, and ensuring equipment and facilities are kept in good working condition. To plays a key support role in minimising downtime and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. Minimum Requirements: ? Grade 10 ? Basic technical or mechanical knowledge (N2/N3 certificate in mechanical/electrical engineering is advantageous) ? Previous experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment will be an advantage ? Physically fit and able to work in an industrial setting ? Good communication skills in English or Afrikaans ? Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and standby when required ? Familiarity with safe working practices and PPE requirements Key Responsibilities: ? Assist maintenance artisans and technicians with mechanical and electrical repairs ? Perform basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and tightening components ? Deliver tools, parts, and materials to work sites as needed ? Assist with machine inspections and reporting of visible defects or irregularities ? Support installation and dismantling of plant equipment under supervision ? Conduct housekeeping of maintenance workshop and surrounding areas ? Assist with maintenance record-keeping and completing checklists ? Follow safety procedures and use tools and equipment correctly ? Respond to breakdowns or urgent maintenance calls when required ? Carry out any other reasonable tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor Soft Skills & Competencies: ? Willingness to learn and take instruction ? Attention to detail and proactive mindset ? Reliable and punctual ? Able to work independently or as part of a team ? Problem-solving attitude and basic fault detection skills Accountabilities: ? Responsible for safe use of tools and materials ? Accountable for assisting in planned and unplanned maintenance tasks ?
