It is a student-centred gathering and learning space that brings resources, services, programs, and educational technology together to support collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Our newly amalgamated Lightbourn Library is undergoing renovations this summer and is designed to be an exciting future-oriented hub of learning, innovation, and knowledge creation. St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School has an opening for a dynamic and forward-thinking Library Technician who demonstrates a genuine appreciation and understanding for how young and adolescent girls learn best. A passion for working with young people, a good sense of humour, strong organizational skills, and a love of learning are essential. The Library Technician is a leader in the field of library science, technology, and innovative teaching and learning. The Library Technician is a member of the library team whose primary role is to support the overall and continual operations and supervision of the Lightbourn Library and provide assistance to students and staff. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment where value is placed on the skills and passions of each discipline within a larger context of our school mission, vision, and values. Responsibilities include providing instruction in, and access to, information resources; collaborating with faculty to cultivate and support usage of the collection of library, information, and curriculum resources; and supporting students as they seek both research and reading opportunities. Position Details Education: Post Secondary Education - Communication, Library Services or English Experience: 2 years of library/education experience Experience with Follet Destiny Experience in Independent Schools (asset) Computer Skills: Comfort with Mac Applications, Google Suite Comfort with emergent Technology (software, applications, etc) Working Conditions: School/Office Environment and Classroom Environment Key Responsibilities Create a learning environment where students feel safe and welcome Promote a love of learning and of reading during one-on-one and group interactions, as well as through displays, reading programs, and the school's online portal Support student learning experiences where inquiry, curiosity, thinking skills, and student agency are valued Provide on-going support and assistance to students and staff when locating resources, searching catalogues, and accessing web-based resources Oversee the daily operations of the Lightbourn Library, including supervision of students and reader advisory for all patrons Maintain and update the library collection and manage the overall circulation of resources Collaborate on the selection, ordering, and promotion of new materials As part of the library team, develop and implement a shared vision, including the library collection, the physical space, and the library programs Coordinate parent and student volunteers in the Lightbourn Library Attend and participate in Junior, Middle, and Senior School meetings, when required Support the school mission, vision, and values in all aspects of the Lightbourn Library experience Who You Are Your Strengths Above all else, the successful candidate is a champion for girls' education.
