Working with students from Grades 2 - 12, this unique role supports SMLS's mission to develop courageous girls who challenge and transform the world. The ideal candidate is a passionate and forward-thinking educator with a deep commitment to developing empathetic, courageous, and compassionate global citizens. As part of the Global Citizenship Department, The Global Citizenship Teacher inspires students to engage meaningfully with their communities through programs like the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, Round Square, and outdoor education experiences. The Global Citizenship Teacher creates inclusive, student-centred environments where all learners thrive, and brings a collaborative, reflective approach to the work. Position Details Department: Global Citizenship Reports to: Director, Global Citizenship Working Conditions: School/Office Environment and Overnight trips (Includes camping, domestic & international travel) Key Responsibilities Apply a strong understanding of girls' education to design and deliver experiential and character-based programming that cultivates global competencies, leadership, and ethical decision-making in students, Create and facilitate innovative, student-centred programming that embraces diverse learning styles and fosters critical thinking, creativity, and the development of future-ready skills. Support the Grade 11 Professional Internship Program, by helping students engage meaningfully in real-world learning environments. Contribute to the planning and facilitation of local and global experiences-including exchanges, outdoor education, and travel opportunities-that build intercultural understanding and active citizenship. Assist with the logistical coordination of experiential opportunities, ensuring effective communication with families and school partners. Ensure risk management and mitigation planning across all experiential learning activities including exchanges, local and international trips, are in line with school policies and best practices. Foster strong connections across the school community and with external organizations to enhance programming and expand student opportunities. Collaborate on the design and delivery of events and initiatives that promote student voice, global citizenship, and school-wide character development. Champion community-connected learning by integrating service, leadership, and global citizenship into everyday student experiences. Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education (or a related post-secondary education) Experience: 3 years of teaching experience Computer Skills: Mac, Google Co-operative Education Additional Qualification Experience in an Independent school environment (asset) Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and Round Square program experience (asset) Experience planning and leading domestic and international student trips (asset) Risk mitigation and management protocols (asset) Why Join SMLS?
