Job Description

Working within the context of a multidisciplinary team, and utilizing a patient and family-centered approach, the MCH MUMC CYMHP Social Worker conducts mental health assessments and/or provides case management and /or treatment to children, youth and their families, often on an urgent basis to high acuity patients, in the Mental Health Assessment Unit (MAU). The Social Worker delivers a range of evidence-based treatment to individuals and families including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), emotion-focused family therapy (EFFT), and collaborative assessment and management of suicidality (CAMS). The Social Worker contributes to new and ongoing research and quality assurance projects, and provides consultation/liaison to other hospital-based teams and community agencies. The Social Worker provides education to the public and other professionals on issues relevant to the field of child and youth mental health. Qualifications Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers Minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience in a pediatric mental health setting providing full courses of treatment Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the provision of evidence-based modalities (i.e., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing) within a pediatric mental health population an asset Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act Demonstrated expertise and experience in conducting comprehensive risk assessments and engaging in crisis intervention with children, adolescents, and families Demonstrated expertise and strong knowledge base in the occurrence and rage of child and youth mental health disorders and difficulties Expert knowledge of local and regional community-based resources to aid with assessment, transition planning, and discharge Experience triaging as asset Demonstrated proficiency in documentation Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills Problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills Ability to work independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team
