Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Days Hours per Shift: Not specified Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current state license as a registered nurse Certifications: Current CPR certification; ACLS, PALS, or TNCC certifications per policy Must-Have: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred Description: Under the direction of the department Director or designee, this position assesses, plans, organizes, and evaluates all aspects of patient care. Utilizes the nursing process to provide quality patient care according to established standards of care. This includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting the plan of care, as well as discharge planning based on expected patient outcomes. Admits, transfers, and discharges patients. Completes ongoing patient assessments and documents according to policy. Develops patient plans of care that include patient problems, goals, evaluations, and interventions. Reports symptoms and significant changes in the patient’s condition to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Assesses, collaborates, and coordinates the patient’s discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge with other members of the care team. Demonstrates appropriate application of age-specific standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines in caring for various patient age groups. Follows age-specific standards in administering medications. Implements treatments and procedures that are routine for the unit based on the patient’s age. Incorporates cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care. In collaboration with the patient and family, implements the plan of care in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner. Demonstrates competency in providing nursing care according to established standards. Shows critical thinking skills and delegates activities based on patient assessment and requirements for safe care delivery. Documents patient care in the patient record according to established standards. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to educate patients and families about disease processes and wellness promotion. Assesses patient and family learning needs, abilities, and preferences. Utilizes a collaborative interdisciplinary process to provide appropriate patient and family education. Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching and adjusts as needed to achieve desired patient outcomes. Participates in performance improvement activities, including data collection and analysis to maintain quality care and promote desired outcomes. Demonstrates awareness of and relevance of research in nursing. Evaluates practices to identify areas for improvement or research opportunities. Effectively utilizes communication tools and systems to stay informed and to communicate with the healthcare team. Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and personnel issues. Adheres to standards for appropriate conduct and displays mutual respect in communication with peers. Follows through on issues that may compromise effective job performance by using the appropriate channels of communication. The position requires physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to fifty (50) pounds while administering patient care. Must demonstrate visual acuity to distinguish skin tone variations and read various medical devices. Must demonstrate audio acuity to identify important body sounds and discern sounds made by medical equipment. Environmental hazards may include exposure to chemicals, infectious materials, and proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing and equipment may be necessary.
