PYP English Teacher

Job Title: PYP English Teacher Location: Sancta Maria International School, Faridabad Position Type: Full-time Job Purpose: To deliver engaging, inquiry-driven English language instruction to Primary Years Programme (PYP) students, encouraging strong literacy skills, creativity, and international-mindedness. The ideal candidate will bring 5–8 years of proven experience teaching English within the PYP framework and will contribute actively to a transdisciplinary, concept-based learning environment. Key Responsibilities: Teaching & Learning Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate English lessons that align with PYP language scope and sequence, emphasizing reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing. Integrate language instruction into transdisciplinary units of inquiry (UOIs), promoting authentic, real-world learning. Use a variety of instructional strategies and assessment techniques to differentiate learning and support diverse student needs. Encourage a love for reading, storytelling, and effective communication in a student-centered classroom. Assessment & Reporting Design ongoing formative and summative assessments that align with PYP learning outcomes and language continuums. Use assessment data to provide personalized feedback and inform instructional decisions. Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to parent-teacher conferences and report writing. Curriculum Development Collaborate with grade-level and subject teachers to develop, review, and refine units of inquiry with strong language integration. Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the PYP English curriculum by incorporating student interests, global contexts, and current best practices. Ensure alignment with IB philosophy, learner profile attributes, and approaches to learning (ATL). Pastoral & Administrative Duties Support the holistic development of each learner by fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment. Participate in school-wide events, student showcases, assemblies, and extracurricular programmes. Manage administrative tasks including planning documentation, resource management, and parent communication. Professional Development Actively engage in school-based and external IB professional development. Stay current with PYP framework updates and contemporary pedagogical trends in early and primary years English education. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field. B.Ed or equivalent recognized teaching qualification. IB PYP Category 1 and/or 2 training (mandatory or willingness to update). Experience 5–8 years of full-time teaching experience within an IB PYP curriculum context (mandatory). Proven success in integrating language learning into transdisciplinary units of inquiry. Skills & Attributes Deep understanding of early literacy development and language acquisition. Strong collaborative mindset with excellent communication and planning skills. Passion for inquiry-based, student-led learning and international education. Commitment to nurturing the IB Learner Profile and global citizenship. Desirable: Experience mentoring colleagues or leading PYP planning meetings. Familiarity with phonics-based and whole-language approaches. Ability to contribute to school-wide literacy initiatives or reading programmes.
