MID-DAY STUDIOS: INTERNSHIP ASSIGNMENT BRIEF Title: From Fact to Fiction – Story Research & Development Duration: 8–12 Weeks Note: This is an UNPAID internship opportunity. This requirement of two interns for Mid-day Studios, one for our Delhi office and one for the Mumbai office Ideally, the candidates should be from a media studies background, with a keen interest in content development and research, JD Below. A. FICTION STORY DEVELOPMENT 1. Story Research & Inspiration Mapping Curate sources like newspaper clippings, web articles, and anecdotal accounts to inspire fiction storylines (e.g., local crimes, cultural taboos, emerging youth trends). Prepare chronological event sheets , summarizing key incidents. Connect with stakeholders (journalists, experts, etc.) for deeper insights. Maintain a research document for each idea: Title suggestions Thematic zone Socio-political backdrop Conflict arc 2. Character Matrix Preparation Create character bibles covering: Background & physical traits Motivations & psychological traits Relationships and emotional arcs Develop visual references/mood boards for 2–3 characters per story. 3. Story Outline Rewriting Reframe synopses/treatments into: A logline A 3-Act structure outline A pitch synopsis (1 paragraph) Explore alternate openings or endings for genre variations. B. NON-FICTION STORY DEVELOPMENT 1. Subject Research & Timeline Curation For stories like true crime, biographies, or investigative docs: Outline key events Identify all major stakeholders Differentiate verified vs. speculative information Create a chronology/timeline visual for narrative flow. 2. Interview Content Curation Prepare interviewee briefs and question sets . Coordinate and document interviews or research inputs. Summarize interview content into concise bullet points . 3. Archive Building Collect and catalogue: News links, legal reports, audio/video clips Organize in a Google Sheet with: Source, date, credibility, type 4. Fact vs. Fiction Sheet For docu-dramas or dramatized true stories, build a comparison: This internship offers hands-on experience in story ideation, research, and development for both fictional and non-fictional formats .
