DevOps Engineer - Newcastle (suitable for someone to relocate) £100,000 Supporting and servicing the UK’s largest Hedge Fund Company Graduates from leading UK universities are especially encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, on-site role offering the opportunity to drive impactful automation and DevOps initiatives in a dynamic environment. This role is suitable for the highest performing engineers keen for a challenge supporting the UK’s largest Hedge Fund, so naturally, they’re looking for the brightest and most eager to develop. They are building a team of exceptional people and an intellectually stimulating environment from which to work. Your Core Responsibilities Streamlining infrastructure setup and maintenance to support fast, scalable software delivery. Owning, managing, and enhancing our Continuous Integration (CI) infrastructure. Enhancing system observability with effective diagnostic and tracking solutions. Delivering automation solutions for end-users across the business. Ideal Skill Set Technical Competencies Confident with automation scripting , ideally in PowerShell or similar. Experience writing code in C# , Python , or Java —a background in software development is obligatory. Familiar with either Ansible or Terraform . Hands-on exposure to Docker containers and orchestration tools like Kubernetes or Docker Swarm . Comfortable with system monitoring tools such as Grafana or the ELK stack . Understanding of automated deployment pipelines , particularly if familiar with TeamCity . Comfortable managing both Windows and Linux systems, and working with Microsoft SQL Server . Additional Technical Know-How Knowledge of tools like Bitbucket , JIRA , Artifactory , Octopus Deploy , or SonarQube is a plus. Exposure to job orchestration systems such as Control-M . Practical experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) is advantageous. Understanding of VM infrastructure (e.g., vSphere) and storage solutions (e.g., SAN). Soft Skills & Qualities Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and speaking. Comfortable explaining technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Demonstrates initiative, ownership, and a strong desire to continuously improve. Past experience in financial services is a bonus, but not a requirement. Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree (2:1 or above) in Computer Science or a closely related field (Physics, Mathematics, Psychology etc.). Strong academic background preferred—ideally with top-tier A-Level results. Graduates from leading UK universities are especially encouraged to apply.
