Job Description
Company Mission: Centeon is an early-stage, deeptech company pioneering the future of low-carbon ammonia. Our mission is to develop a scalable, cost-competitive way to create local, resilient, electric (and emissions-free) ammonia supply to address market demand across key sectors like agriculture, chemicals and energy. The company has unlocked several breakthroughs since incorporating 2 years ago and aim to bring their first commercial solution to market in 2027. About the Role We’re looking for a driven, hands-on intern to dive into an exciting project evaluating engineered microbes for next-gen chemical production . You’ll work at the intersection of synthetic biology and bioprocessing , selecting strains from our in-house engineering pipeline and setting up end-to-end workflows to assess microbial performance. You’ll roll up your sleeves and get hands-on with microbial phenotyping, bioreactor setup and maintenance, bioprocess monitoring , and the use of metrology techniques that are critical to scaling a breakthrough climate technology. And as our tech is not your classical fermentation reactor, you’ll learn about electrochemistry, microbe-electrode interactions and biofilms through our hybrid tech . This is a unique opportunity to experience the full R&D pipeline—from bench to pilot scale —and contribute to a platform with real, measurable climate impact. This role is ideal for a Master’s-level student (M1 or M2) in life sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, (bio)chemical engineering or a related field with a strong foundation in wet lab microbiology and a desire to work on climate-aligned biotech innovation. Your Mission Perform phenotypic screening of microbial strains using quantitative wet lab methods. Execute microbial culture experiments following standard operating procedures. Apply metrology techniques , including Ion Chromatography (IC), to analyze metabolic outputs. Ensure accurate sample preparation, measurement, and data recording in lab notebooks and digital systems. Contribute to the optimization of screening protocols and troubleshooting of experimental workflows. Work closely with senior scientists and engineers to interpret results and guide next steps. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory workspace in compliance with safety protocols. ✅ What We’re Looking For Enrolled in a Master’s program (M1 or M2) in life sciences, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, chemical or biological engineering , or a related field. At least 6 months of cumulative hands-on experience in a wet lab , especially working with microbes. Familiarity with sterile techniques, pipetting, microbial culture, working in anaerobic environments and basic analytical instrumentation. Detail-oriented , reliable, and proactive in lab work. Good documentation habits and scientific rigor. Strong interest in sustainable bioprocessing and experimental R&D. Our Offer: This is a high-growth role in a fast-evolving start-up at the cutting edge of clean tech. You’ll join a small founding team (10-11 people initially, growing rapidly) and get to shape both the tech and the company from the ground up. We offer: Competitive salary & benefits Mentorship from founders and domain experts Full visibility into company-building: from engineering to strategy to fundraising Location: Paris, France — a hub for climate tech with a high quality of life If you’re excited about advancing technology that could redefine entire industries and want to join a mission-led team from the start, we’d love to hear from you. ⚡ Apply Now: Reach out with your CV and two sample publications or curated experimental reports (that you are proud of). About the Company and the Founders: Centeon is an early-stage green chemicals company based in Paris, France. Since incorporating two years ago, they have demonstrated key technical milestones that unlocked the support of select early-stage investors. The two founders (Jerome and Daniel) bring different and complementary experience, expertise and leadership by execution to their young team as they sprint to meet their technical and commercial targets. Daniel (Mexican) is a repeat biotech founder and has a track record of innovating in areas as diverse as cancer diagnostics to plant-based bioproduction. Jerome (Filipino) brings a track record in technology commercialization across many areas of hardware, in managing multi-million funded R&D projects and in coordinating partnerships with government and commercial stakeholders. We believe that a diverse group of minds is key in building fast-moving, innovative and resilient organizations. We strongly encourage women and people of colour to apply. Studies have shown that under-represented candidates are less likely to apply for a role unless they feel they meet every single qualification. We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and mission-driven team. If you’re excited about the position but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with what you read here, we encourage you to apply anyway!
