Job Title: Senior QA Automation Engineer Location: Montreal _ Onsite Job Type: Contract Experience: Advanced (8-1-5 years) Please share the resume by mail aravind.r@burgeonits.net About the Role: We are seeking a Test Support Lead with deep expertise in Java-based testing to drive test strategy, automation, and quality practices across a multi-product platform comprised of in-house and third-party solutions. This role involves working closely with developers in a no-dedicated-QA environment to implement end-to-end quality coverage, from JUnit tests to integration , end-to-end , and performance testing. As a hands-on leader , you will support and mentor developers in testing best practices while establishing standards across four squads. You’ll also work closely with product owners to define strong acceptance criteria and ensure business logic is thoroughly validated. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement optimized test strategies and test plans for each product within the squad. Maintain and improve unit test coverage across the codebase, targeting 95% coverage . Lead by example in developing test cases (JUnit, integration, E2E, performance). Design and maintain a comprehensive automated test suite with a focus on reliability and maintainability. Roll out and enforce Cucumber-based BDD testing using real-world, business-defined Gherkin scenarios across all squads. Collaborate with Product Owners and Developers to define acceptance criteria and identify critical edge cases . Guide developers on test-driven development (TDD) and behavior-driven development (BDD) . Oversee the testing practices of three additional squads , ensuring consistency and quality alignment. Perform detailed analysis and validation using SQL queries on large-scale reporting and analytics datasets. Continuously assess and improve testing processes, tools, and frameworks. Required Skills & Experience: 8 years of experience in software testing , QA automation , or software development with a strong QA mindset. Strong proficiency in Java and JUnit for unit and integration testing. Expertise in test automation frameworks (e.g., JUnit, TestNG, Selenium, Cucumber). Strong understanding of testing methodologies , test strategy, and test plan creation. Experience implementing Cucumber/Gherkin in BDD workflows. Proven ability to identify and define complex edge cases and corner scenarios. Hands-on experience with SQL and data validation (ideally within analytics/reporting environments). Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines , version control systems (e.g., Git), and build tools (e.g., Maven, Gradle). Comfortable leading quality initiatives across multiple agile squads . Nice-to-Have: Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter , Gatling ). Exposure to cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Experience with test data management and mocking tools. Soft Skills: Strong mentorship and team collaboration abilities. Ability to influence and drive quality ownership within development teams. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail .
