Job Description Summary Licensed Nursing Staff with competency in one (1) of the departments listed: Medical-Surgical Services, Behavioral Health Services. Performs nursing care activities for individuals in the Medical/Surgical Services (e.g., 2 East, 3 East, 4 East, 5 East, 6 East, 7 East), and Adult Behavioral Medicine Unit. Actively accepts, understands, and practices appropriate standards of nursing practice. Contributes to the nursing assessment of the patient. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Actively supports the mission, vision, and values of the hospital and department. Performs various activities related to the needs of adult and geriatric patients in accordance with the hospital’s established policies, procedures, and the Alabama Board of Nursing. Job Description Essential Functions Assists the registered nurse in data collection to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for medical/surgical and psychiatric patients. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Performs activities related to the needs of adult and geriatric patients according to hospital policies, procedures, and the Alabama Board of Nursing. Practices appropriate standards of medical/surgical and psychiatric nursing. Contributes to the nursing assessment of the patient. Documents accurate information on all records. Communicates patient care plans effectively to patients, families, and healthcare staff with guidance from the registered nurse. Uses effective interviewing skills to gather necessary information from patients and/or families. Exercises sound clinical judgment and critical thinking; develops creative solutions to problems. Develops, documents, validates, and revises the plan of care for assigned patients. Reports critical or unusual situations promptly. Responds to emergencies following hospital policies and job requirements. Works cooperatively with co-workers as a team. Seeks resources for guidance when necessary. Supports the mission, vision, and values of the hospital and department. Performs other duties as assigned that do not compromise safety or protocols. Supervised Positions None Qualifications Minimum Education Required Graduate of an accredited nursing school. Current LPN license in Alabama. Minimum Education Preferred Undergraduate degree completion. Minimum Experience Required Two (2) years hospital LPN experience for Medical-Surgical Services. One (1) or more years psychiatric nursing for Behavioral Medicine Unit. Current ACLS certification. Minimum Experience Preferred Two (2) or more years healthcare experience. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Maintain current Alabama LPN licensure and ACLS certification. Complete Basic Cardiac Life Support and institutional EKG courses. Complete annual competency requirements. Show initiative and ability to work independently. Demonstrate teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication. Provide age-appropriate care and interpret patient data. Manage time effectively and utilize supplies appropriately. Work cooperatively with patients, families, and staff of diverse backgrounds. Operate computers and healthcare software. Adhere to hospital policies, including the Six Ground Rules. Shift Day shift, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, FTE 0.2, Per Diem.
