The security engineering team’s primary responsibility is to respond to emerging threats and secure the open source ecosystem for both community and enterprise users. Your work will involve addressing CVEs and vulnerabilities in Canonical products such as Ubuntu. You will engage with the community and customers and coordinate with multiple engineering teams. An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. Developing engineering talent, representing your team and product technically, and fostering collaboration are key to success in this role. What you will do in this role Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduates to seniors Provide technical guidance on vulnerability remediation Drive new security engineering projects Collaborate with upstream open source projects on vulnerability management Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback Monitor team health indicators Implement disciplined engineering processes Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers Promote best engineering and organizational practices Plan and track progress on goals and projects Participate in the security engineering leadership team, collaborating with other leaders What we are looking for in you Strong academic background from high school and university Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative story Drive and a history of exceeding expectations Excellent communication skills in English Passion for developing people and a proven track record Organizational skills to ensure timely, high-quality results Professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, partners, and community Solid software development background, including support and maintenance Mastery in any programming language (e.g., Go, Java, C, Python) Knowledge and passion for software and application security Experience in agile development environments Commitment to continuous learning Ability to build trust and relationships Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments Willingness to travel twice a year for up to two weeks Optional valued skills Deep understanding of Linux distributions, ideally Ubuntu or Debian What we offer Our compensation considers location, experience, and performance, with annual reviews and performance bonuses.
