Job Description

Job Purpose: To perform installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of rotating equipment (e.g., motors) in accordance with Ex (explosive atmosphere) standards and site safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Install, inspect, maintain, and repair rotating equipment including Ex-certified electric motors and drives. Conduct Ex inspections (Visual, Close, and Detailed) in line with IEC 60079-17. Disassemble and reassemble machinery using appropriate tools and lifting techniques. Carry out condition monitoring and diagnostics (e.g., vibration, alignment, thermal imaging). Maintain compliance with ATEX/IECEx directives and site-specific safety procedures. Document work activities, including Ex equipment records and maintenance logs. Ensure equipment integrity and minimize downtime by adhering to predictive and preventive maintenance practices. Participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks. Liaise with engineers, planners, and external inspectors to coordinate work. Identify and report unsafe conditions or faults immediately. Qualifications and Certifications: Recognized engineering apprenticeship or relevant NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in mechanical fitting or electrical/mechanical engineering. Ex Certification to IEC 60079 standards (e.g., CompEx Ex01–Ex04 or IECEx CoPC). Additional certifications may include: CompEx Ex05–06 (dust environments) ISO or OEM training for specific rotating machinery Experience: Minimum 3–5 years’ experience working with rotating equipment in hazardous areas. Demonstrated understanding of Ex protection techniques (e.g., Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex t). Skills and Competencies: Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting ability. Understanding of hazardous area classifications and safety protocols. Ability to read engineering drawings and technical manuals. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Strong safety awareness and attention to detail. Working Conditions Workshop role with potential travel to site on occasion. May involve shift work or call-out availability. Exposure to industrial and potentially hazardous environments.
