Introduction Wentworth is a leading civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering consultancy, providing design and checking services across all built environment sectors and industries. We are looking for someone with experience delivering London commercial office space and / or working within aviation is preferred. Candidates need to be confident working with existing buildings and new build, with a strong emphasis on practical sustainability and constructability. This vacancy is based in our new Design Studio, focused predominantly on delivering permanent works designs. Functions as an autonomous team member with the potential for full delegated lead engineer responsibility for multiple projects including complex task delivery. Regularly contacts technicians and engineers to ensure that work develops efficiently and in line with projected timescale and budget. Provides technical support and guidance to colleagues as required. Ensures all aspects of project delivery; technical suitability, cost, time, accuracy, client relationships are managed and delivered successfully. In order to do this they must be sufficiently aware of projects under their remit even though they are not personally delivering them. Technical: Undertakes civil, structural and geotechnical design / checking & method development tasks from client briefs with no supervision. Develops concept and detailed design approaches using appropriate tools to suit the complexity of the task. Uses their extensive knowledge, skills and experience to identify and implement practical, cost effective, sustainable and safe solutions with due diligence, skill and care in accordance with statutory legislation, the suite of Eurocodes and other approved industry body guidance and established best practice. Has extensive working knowledge of industry standard structural/geotechnical software packages with a thorough understanding of their limitations as well as capability of producing sketches to scale by hand and/or using CAD. Ensures engineers & technicians allocated to deliver tasks under their supervision are adequately briefed and supported to ensure understanding and successful delivery of the task. The supervising Associate retains ownership of the process & final product/design. Takes a lead on non-project related technical developments for the benefit of the company or the industry. Is experienced in the execution of projects in accordance with BS EN ISO 19650 'Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM)’. Commercial: Comprehensive understanding of commercial engagement mechanisms, executes works in accordance with budgets & commercial mechanisms. Determines project & task hour & fee budgets with minimal assistance of a team leader. Identifies change, raises early warnings & change notes, negotiates with clients when required. Tracks and monitors task accruals vs. budgets to ensure compliance and identify opportunities/risks. Resolves issues with clients that subordinate staff are unable to resolve. Time: Plans own tasks & tasks of others to deliver on time. Determines and executes multiple projects / complex task resourcing requirements (designers / technicians / checkers / approvers / Cat 3 checkers) to ensure delivery on time. Identifies when deadlines are not going to be achieved, communicates with stakeholders, and identifies & implements remedial actions. Requirements BEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering. CITB Construction Skills Certification Scheme Card.
