Head Field Guide

ABOUT THE POSITION • A "Head Field Guide" is a senior position within a wildlife or nature reserve, responsible for overseeing a team of field guides, ensuring the highest quality wildlife viewing experience for guests, maintaining safety standards, and often playing a key role in staff training, conservation efforts, and guest relations within the lodge or reserve; essentially leading the guiding operations and acting as the primary expert on the local ecosystem and wildlife. • Meticulous in all aspects of Managing the guiding department • Manage, Oversee and Discipline staff in the guiding department • Staff training and development • Assist the Marketing team to manage social media content • Perform all administrative duties pertaining to the guiding department • Allocation of Rangers and Trackers to daily game drives • Staff scheduling and rosters • Manage daily game drives and bush walks • Hosting duties • Assist in guest activities • Assist around the lodge in other departments if needed • Photographic safaris • Stock control • Compile weekly and monthly reports • Manage departmental budget comparisons • Valid RSA ID. • Stable track record. • Reliable, ethical, confidential, motivated, guest orientated, honest, passionate. COMPETENCIES • 2 to 3 years’ experience in a Big 5 Game Reserve and Luxury Lodge essential • Experience in Wildlife photography will be an advantage • First Aid • Matric/Grade 12 • FGASA Level 2 – Field Guide • Trails Guide • Passionate about Wildlife • Valid RSA Driver’s License and PDP • Firearm competency • Strong leadership skills • Mature and responsible • Well spoken, well-groomed and presentable • Reliability & adaptability • Eye for detail • Stress tolerance • Problem analysis • Excellent verbal & written communication skills • Be guest-centric ensuring great experiences • Promote & foster teamwork LEVEL Junior Management EXPERIENCE Applicants must have at least 3-5 years’ senior chef experience at 4/5* Lodge. Matric. Further tertiary culinary qualifications.
